Burgess Junction

I was wondering if anyone has been to Burgess Junction? Thoughts - good/bad? Is the part of the blowies?
Usually go to Cooke City for out West riding but this New Years the wife is coming along and I don't think she is ready for Cooke City yet.
I thought about Togwotee but someone said try Burgess Junction so I'm looking for some input please.
Thank you!

Burgess Junction is not part of the Snowies. It is quite a ways North of there. It is in the Northern Big Horns just West of Sheridan, WY. I have been there many times. Lots of really nice wide trails if you want to do some trail riding but more importantly it has a lot of varied terrain from pretty easy wide open meadows, to plenty of big bowls, tree riding areas, valleys and some fairly steep and deep areas. I haven't been to Cooke, but I have heard the terriain is more aggressive there than most of the Burgess Junction area. The Burgess Jct area also doesn't seem to get quite as much snow as Togwotee, or Cooke, and the powder often isn't quite as good, but they still get a good amount of snow and if you hit it right, the off trail riding conditions can be great. The trails are almost always good. I have had many trips with fair to marginal powder also, but several with good snow also. There are three lodges in the Burgess Junction area all owned by the same people. They are the Arrowhead Lodge, Bear Lodge and the Elk View Inn. The Bear Lodge and Elk View are at just over 8,000 feet and the Arrowhead is a bit lower but still lower but still over 7,000 ft. You can generally find good riding from just over 7,000 feet up to a bit over 10,000 feet. You can find info on all three lodges on Bear's website which is http://www.bearlodgeresort.com/. I have got pics posted of my trip to the Big Horns from early March of this year in the Guest Shots Current Gallery Section.

We have been out there twice and if your taking your wife id say go there, much shorter drive then togowotee or cooke and the riding is great as stated above, theres anything from mild to wild terrain, depends how far off the beaten path you go! id like to get back to bear lodge this season maybe

I have been to Burgess Junction twice on the ATV's and been to towotee 3 times snowmobiling, in my opinion Togwotee is much steeper and has more trees. Burgess is more rolling and open. I drove to both and I didn't notice one any closer than the other. If you've never been out west either one will be fun. You might even want to ride rapid city area, i hear thats fun as well. I stayed at the Elk View and the rooms were nice and food was good, they have a hot tub and a pool for the kids as well.

Burgess Junction is the north east part of the state and Tog is the opposite side of the state...big diff in the drive. but ya either area has its pluses and the black hills is great to ride in IF they have snow
