can anyone recommend any cabin rentals around the Lake Gogebic? sounds like there may be change in place we used to stay at and just want to cover our bases just in case

The Timbers Resort on north end of the lake has fully furnished cabins, nothing fancy 1-3 bedrooms? Plenty of parking. West Shore Resort small rustic furnished cabins all 2 bedrooms i believe. Bears Nine Pines ,ive only stayed in the smaller cabins but they do have a couple bigger ones. And Gogebic Lodge is probably the nicest, especially if youre bringing the ladies with, has all sizes and are more modern . All have plenty of parking nice owners have everything you need. If your going prior to new years i recomend staying on north end of lake. Just in case lake is not safe and trails are not froze up on east and west side of lake.

This thread has me curious. I kinda wrote off the Gogebic area as a whole atleast 5 years ago. Between the DNR/Law the crappy grooming and just how frickin busy that entire area seems to be. Do you guys find decent trails and or establishments that you enjoy in that area?

Have been going there for many years and yes I will say we have had our bad years, far less than we have had good years, with now having our own shop we try to come up a few days during week through the weekend, just easier to do than take entire week off like I would rather do and just avoid the weekend. We also like the area because we can plan our trips in each direction from there and cover a lot of area instead of staying mid keewenaw and always having to take the same trail south or north to go anywhere. last year when we were up the trails were like riding fresh laid pavement during the week (mid feb) probably one of best years we had, didn't matter what direction we went either. We stay at the root cellar in the mallard cabin, we really like it there and really like Rick and Jane who run it. We also enjoy fish tales and Gogebic lodge, however Gogebic lodge can be very busy at times, Henry's Never Inn a must stop as well. Last year we put on 1100 miles in 4 days and with exception of last day which was washboard from calumet all the way to bergland (to be expected on a weekend, not complaining by any means) we love the area, love where we stay, like that we can plan each day trip in a different direction and not have to ride a lot of same trails twice ( not that I ever get sick of the scenery ) That's why I would rather stay around the Gogebic area.

One more place i forgot about is Bergland Trailside. Just south of B.B.B. its on its own website and air bnb or vrbo cant remember. Never stayed but pics look nice. I have tried to rent it a few times but always booked for my dates and the owner sure seems decent on the phone i have talked to a couple times also a realtor i do believe. Yes Root cellar is very nice as well ...euphoric you are the first ive heard talk positive about the owners if you get along with them youll really like everyone else that i mentioned in previous post. Slimcake Gogebic is my favorite area. Think this will be my 11th year ? Of going to the U.P. The last 2 years i have made 6 trips each. Stay down there every time except 1 trip each year stay in Calumet. It isnt any busier than up there. Yes trails can get beatup from taffic just like twinlakes and north. It does also take awhile longer for everything to freezeup down there but once its froze usually good to go. I think this is going to be the 3rd or 4th year for this group of people that have really changed the grooming around from previous bad years . I never really noticed when everyonelse was complaing how bad it was around Gogebic. Theres always gonna be bad trails depending on traffic. Yes i like smooth trails too but we are not riding on highways. Iknow this because i also go 4wheeling up there and was just there for labor day. Youd be surprised whats under all that snow!! As far as establishments theyre are plenty yes some busier then others all have good food and a new bar/grille just opened up at ajs walleye lodge which should help thin the herd on the lake although im guessing gonna need about 10 bars to open on the lake with all this B.S. Rona regulations and limitations!!!! P.s slim if you ever wanna ride down there hit me up,ive enjoyed reading about you and fuji and P.D. touring together up north

High country, Thank you for the recommendations, being this is our "vacation" for the year as in my business we are way too busy to take any extended time off other than holiday weekends during the time of year you wish you could take vacation, we are looking more for a vacation home or private cabin rental, more so a full size cabin, fireplace if possible. I know asking for a lot but in my younger days when we spent morning till wee hours of night riding, didn't care much where I laid my head. I now have a wife that enjoys the sport as much as I do and we both work at our shop so this is our chance to ride and our only vacation we take as well, so I guess maybe I have become a little more picky of where I/we stay. As far as owners at root cellar, we love them, I have been going there for atleast 15 years, we enjoy their hospitality, when we call they always recognize our voice, just cant say we have ever had a bad experience there.

Slimcake I will agree with euphoric and high country it was bad but they have gotten the stuff together and are doing a much better job the last few years. They have new blood in there and have moved one of the groomers to Marenisco so the south end and down to Presque Isle get groomed like it should now. One other thing is they just went through on trail 2 at least East of Marenisco with grader you take all the big woops out so that will help trails in that area also.

Law enforcement is still heavy in that area, but with that being said they were looking for trail passes and complete stops at stop signs, thankfully our February trip last year we were able to save a couple hours drive and stopped in Tomohawk, that will be our plan from now on and just ride north from there. In my opinion grooming has gotten better up there (LG) over the last 2 years, the North Country Snowmobile Club out of Ontonagon always has had some of the best trails in the UP IMO.

There are place on Vrbo and air bnb . One is called Northern reflections and i know the lady who does or did run the store in front of Bears nine Pines has a rental house or houses nearby also. I am in same boat most of my trips are last minute plans do t have set vacation time just take a Friday or Monday off and make plans on the way up. I agree on staying as far south is nice ,ride the sled instead of truck but that doesnt always work. Sometimes can only get a room for 1 or 2 nights and have to backpack to the next place which easy for 1 guy prob doesnt work for most people.

I will keep that in mind HC. Always looking for new riding pals. I just can't believe people could ride that area especially on the weekend. Its bad enough mon-thur when I am usually UP. Guess I need to give it another go.

Bergland Bay Bar has an apartment above the bar they rent. We also have rented a house about a block north and west of there that you can find on VRBO or Air BnB. I think the Root Celler also has a nice room you can rent as well.

Been riding that area a few years now and we’ve had a lot of fun.
