Any reports on the Cable/Hayward area. I believe the stake trail went up on Namakagon today, but looking for trail conditions, grooming, etc.....

think they just staked 'Big' Round and sounds like most of the lakes are staked, BUT not much snow to work with. :(

We were thinking of riding over to Lake Namakagon from Tomahawk this weekend. How is the Clam Lake area. I heard before that it was not good at all a week or so ago.

I just got back from riding Hayward area this past weekend. Saturday and Sunday we trailered to Iron River and rode in Bayfield as there was not enough snow on the trails by Hayward. Sunday night it snowed 3-5 inches by where I was staying (Spider Lake) so we did a ride on the trails around there before packing up and heading for home. With the prior lack of snow and groomers out prepping for the snow this week, there were LOTS of rocks and logs on the trails, so be careful of that. I'm guessing by this weekend the new snow pack will increase enough to safely cover those.

I also noticed a few new (to me) logging areas on trail 3 between trail 21 and trail 8 connections. The loggers have left a lot of trees laying down, and have only cut a space just wide enough for one sled to get through when going between the cuts and woods on the southwest side of the cut. There is also logging along trail 8 down from the Lake Namakagon Fire Department where the trail connects to the lake near Garden Lake, in which it appears the snowmobile trail is being used by cars to get to/from the logging area, so be careful there as well.

I hit Spider, Lost Land and Namekagon lakes - all were fully staked when we rode them Monday.

Any updates on snow amounts and how the trails are in this area?

I put on 60 miles today. I'd say 10" of new snow since New Years. Plenty of snow and groomers are out. Just need sled to pack down the lakes and they will be smooth. Things should be perfect by tomorrow at lunch time.
