Cable Wisconsin Winter to Spring Alternate Plan

So we tried to snowmobile Cable WI twice this year. First time we got rained out (xmas time) second time temps in the 50s killed it. We still have our deposit at Lakewoods and they are cool with us pushing our reservations back to spring/summer for renting a side by side and running around the area in that for a couple of days. Any recommendations as to a good time to go do that? May, June, July etc... Not sure when trails are open to riding UTVs in WI. Guessing WI doesnt mimick MN trail dates/laws. WI DNR book really didnt say anything as far as restrictions go. Appreciate any insight.

Lake Namekagon is a nice big lake. Maybe some water based activities? Fishing opener in WI is the 1st Sat of May (6th this year). Only about an hour from Bayfield. A bit closer to Ashland & Washburn. Take a ride & sight see.

Want to keep the trip centered around gasoline and pistons. Lakewoods is on Namekogan so that is the easy part. Just curious when a good time to ride trails is. dont want to go into a muddy mess and dont want to eat dust all day. Definetly dont want to show up and find out we CANT ride on trails due to any restrictions.

We were there mid June last yr and rode ATV's and fished and it was nice. It'll be dusty anytime it's dry so just always be the front guy. There's also some phenomenal mtn bike trails around there so you could try that also. Take HWY M east to clam lake and you can look for the elusive Wisconsin elk. We saw one last yr.

That's like asking if conditions will be a drought or deluged with water in the next 3-4 months. Nobody can predict that. Find a time that works for all of you, find out from the locals on any restrictions/closings etc, lock down your rental and go have fun. Personally....the muddier the better. Beats the he!! out of sucking up dust and blowing it out your nose for the next week.

I would try to center it around Memorial Day weekend. The temps that weekend are usually perfect for ATVing. Sometimes a bar/resort has a ride planned for that weekend as well. Several greats rides from Lakewoods heading South and East.

I'll bet their ATV trail system doesn't open until sometime in May. Most counties set a opening date pending conditions sort of like snowmobile trails. I've seen openings come early when dry & delayed when extra wet spring. I'd check with Bayfield & Ashland counties.

Also something to think about is when we were there in Mid June last year there was a large mtn bike race going on so there were a lot of people around and the bike race started on the roads that you can ATV on. They quickly got off onto the single track trails and we had no issues with ATVing that day but may be an issue with lodging/etc...

I'd add Sawyer county to the list to check, as there are a ton of trails to the south and east as mentioned above that go through Sawyer county.

Lots of information here as well: http://tuscobiatrailsatv.com/index.html

Looks like most ATV riding is closed until May 1.

We routinely ride from the casino up to Lakewoods, it's a nice mix of fireroads, trails and a limited amount of roads but not much. The trails down by Seeley are really fun to hit and there's a restaurant,.sawmill saloon, you can stop at. The trail maps are pretty good for that area.
