Camel Riders

I see mention on this site about the good food at Camel Riders. Do you get there off of trail 41 (Haywire) or trail 7? Are they open for lunch? I have not found a website.

Yep you take trail 7 south of buckhorn as duramaxdoodoo said. You'll cross CR 440 which is about 10 miles south of Buckhorn. After that, the trail goes toward the east and it's a bunch of twisties. You will then see a sign for camel riders and it's off to the left at the split in the trail.

They are open for lunch. You should make reservations because it's not very big so calling ahead is your best option. 906-573-2319

Hands down the best food I've had in the UP. Next is Brownstone and then Sidneys. Just my opinion.

Thanks everyone. It looks like trail 7 heads east right after it hits trail 411 (Nahma trail) then crosses CR H-13 and runs south. I'm guessing the sign for Camel Riders will be somewhere when the trail starts to head south. What's kind of odd is that it looks to be closer to trail 41; I'm suprised there is not access from there. I agree with Polarice that there is good food at Brownstone and Sidneys but I am up for a new adventure next weekend.

Polarice is right. Hands down the best food. Small and pretty cozy. Get yourself a Moose while your there!

The turn to camel riders can sneak up to you if your cruising through the woods. It is definately not signed the greatest.

The easiest way to get their is off of trail 7. If your coming from 41, you have to jump on 413 to get to trail 7. If you know the area well its not that big of a deal. If your new to the area shoot to the buckhorn and then down.

When you are traveling on 7 South you will see the trail split. There is a sign at the split for the trail that goes south that says something like; "this trail maintained by Big Bay De Noc snowmobile club," and that is trail 411. Don't go straight, go left. That is trail 7. You will continue and cross FFH 13 while you are heading East. I believe that you will cross another road (I can't remember what it is but I think it's 440, and you're going North for a bit) and not long after that you will see another split and the sign.

I wouldn't take any other way unless you're coming from JackPine which is a major haul with crap trails. Stay on 7 from Buckhorn. The only bad area there is trail 8.

If you're not sure how to get there, I will be up there on Friday through Tuesday. I can show you where to go.

I did a loop last year, 8-41-413-7-8, and remember seeing signs somewhere. I wondered what Camel Riders had to do with snowmobiling and found out later they had great food. I knew JDers would lead me to it. Thanks again, I hope to hit it Saturday.

I have been there several times--by sled and by SUV. My wife and I drove there from Seney--Veterans Ride-a few years ago and the food is GREAT! Make reservations for sure.

Polarice,

That second road you cross coming from the west is Stevens Lake Rd. If the roads haven't been plowed completely bare you can turn left at that road, turn right on CR440 (it's only a little over a city block from the trail) and go east about a mile to the Camel Riders sign.........and yes, I live in the area <G>

And as others have said, be sure to make reservations for evenings or you might not get in......lunches, not so crowded.

Yep that sounds right. I haven't drove there on sled yet. We have a cabin about 5 miles away and have only been there via truck. I take that back about the sled. We did ride there for lunch one day but a buddy was leading and I have no clue how we got there. One of those just follow things. Normally I'm the leader.
