Anybody ever get a ticket for this and what were you doing? Just curious to some of things that would fall into this category but not be covered under the other laws.

Kinda reminds me of a place I used to work. The employee handbook had a long list of reasons for an employee's termination. The last one read something to the effect, "Any reason management deems necessary".

Why have all the others when this one says they can give you a citation for whatever they want, whenever they want?

My buddy got one in the UP a few months ago. Not making a complaint stop. "Careless"

We could have all got one, so really can't complain.

On Sunday PM on the 14th (or was it the 7th) I saw a CO parked near a trail crossing at a private drive near $Bay (entrance to new gated community). I also noticed quite a few sledders approaching him from both directions. He was in a 2009 dark green or black (very dirty) Chevy Silverado Ext. cab Z71 pickup, it was a normal CO truck with all the emblems etc.

wow, sounds like they could sit on a lake and write tickets to fisherman all day.

Can someone refresh my memory about railroad crossings on a sled? They must be a legal crossing whether by trail or road and not just anywhere along the tracks correct?

Trail or road only. Been some problems on the bottom side of the state by me where they have been riding along side the railroad track. Very illegal not to mention tresspassing.

michigan law prohibits walking, riding, driving or being present on the right-of-way of a railroad or a railroad yard. The law lists a number of exceptions, such as legitimate passengers, railroad employees and authorized representatives of the railroad. A violation of this section is considered a misdemeanor and is punishable by imprisonment for not more than thirty days, a fine of not more than one hundred dollars or both. Mich. Stat. Ann. § 22.1263 (273) (law. Co-op. 1999). Also see § 257-1515 for a right-of-way exception for a demonstration snowmobile trail.

Illinois has a very similar law.

I received one for skipping water.

Two of us were ticketed for crossing open water on Houghton Lake, creek flowing into the lake by Prudinville. Buddy knew it was illegal, I know now.

Cited us because we were endangering ourselves.

I got mine for rolling through a trail stop sign. In fact, I'm one of the 10 tickets referenced in the first paragraph of that report in the first post. I was curious why the ticket was not for failing to stop/yield. A friend of mine in law enforcement said it might be because the stop sign law can only be enforced in actual county roads and not on trails. Don't know if this is true or not but maybe someone does. I looked at the statute for careless operation and it was defined as something like operating a snowmobile in a careless or reckless manner on a trail.... I couldn't see myself standing in front of the judge and arguing why rolling through a stop was not careless ..."Well your honor, the road the trail was crossing was a dead end road and it was dark and I did look for headlights and seeing none, figured it was safe not to stop....." I paid my $135 and chalked it up to the price of fun.

The CO told us the failure to stop at a stop sign would be a misdemeanor and go against our license. So he would be nice and give us the careless op.
