Just received a call from the casino in Watersmeet. Said that they had an "emergency situation" and that they would be closed until further notice. Now we have nowhere to stay. Anyone else heard anything?

That is very odd. Nothing on their website or Facebook that I could see. I also heard they were booked solid.

We got back from riding all day and told we have to leave Watersmeet Hotel - would not tell us why. But the Casino and restaurant open which is weird. We drove home in a snowstorm 5 hour drive because we too had no place to stay. Would like to give a shout out to JR - total stranger at Bruce Crossing gave us a ride back to our hotel in Watersmeet after we got stranded on the trails with a blown sled. He was a lifesaver! So we went from a blown sled, to no hotel room, to driving home in a snowstorm. Its 1:30 am, we're just glad to be home safe and sound........thanks again JR

Yup closed, we took in guests who were stuck with no where to go. What a nightmare for their guests. Still haven't heard the reason yet

I figured you would be the right person to to ask. We would like to ride from Lando to watersmeet, #2 to #107,west on #8 to #3 then head south back to WI. We rode some of the Watersmeet trails yesterday and they were great, but did not get a chance to venture north. Thanks

You'll have a great ride! All those trails are in good condition. If you're out today Watersmeet has a broke groomer stuck on trail 3 north of Watersmeet use caution it's in the middle and there will be guys working

#2 is rough lots of small rocks. 107 was amazing on Sunday. sections of 8 are horrible! Rocks everywhere! could see where people hit them and took out coolers. Antifreeze all over the place. Had one guy driving by us with one hand on the bars hit a rock and as a result hit the throttle. Sled launched like a plane into one of our sleds. Right ski went into the exhaust, bumper took out the lights and left ski hit the kid on it in the back as he was jumping off. Complete accident. The guy was going about 10-15 mph when he hit the rock. So be careful on some of the power line sections of 8. Big thanks to the people at Carla's Cozy Bar who let our group hang out for 5 hours while we brought the trucks and trailers back to pick everyone up.

geesh, this thread if full of horror stories... Knock on wood things turn around soon, heading UP in the AM

There has been a weekend since I rode 8 107 to 3 & back on RT and were no rocks like that in fact was being groomed & was super smooth last Thursday night. Had to be torn up to the max over the weekend to have exposed rocks. Sure 2 e is like that but not 8...maybe got trail numbers mixed up?

This my first time riding in this area, but I am pretty sure it was Trail 8. The accident happened west of Ishpeming on our way to Sidnaw. That stretch of the power lines is also where I seen large rocks and antifreeze on the ground. It was a crap shoot all weekend. We started in Lando went to Iron River, then to Marquette, and then back to Lando. I had some of the best trails I have ridden on along with the worst. Some areas groomed very well and others not at all. There was one section we called about and asked if they would go out and groom it because it was so bad. They told us nope, not going out until we get more snow. Not sure exactly where it was but it was only for about a 10 mile stretch. Sorry I cant be more helpful. It was my first time in this area so I don't know the trails very well and I was using my GPS and the trails are named a little different than the Michigan Trail maps.

Just in our group one sled hit a rock perfectly on the left side floor board/belly pan and bent his rotor, another hit a rock and was thrown from his sled (cracked rib), another sled had a rock fly up and hit the air line on a new Ski Doo Enduro taking out the air ride, then the large rock that caused the accident. I guess if you are riding in these areas just be careful of the rocks lots of them of all different sizes small, medium, large and extra large! Just like everyone they could use more snow.

Here is a thought for people that don't get it if snow is thin and there's that many exposed rocks why the hel don't you slow down ?? The reward is no wrecked sleds or body's get it😄😄

Yep 8 where you where is known for rocks poking thru. Sorry that you had such bad luck but understandable in that area. What threw us was the 8 Watersmeet title of thread & 8 north of WM was good maybe excellent by now. We were riding south on 107 at night I was 3rd out of 4 & #2 kicked up a huge rock with his ski & rock was in middle of trail. I steered around it at high speed # 4 mirrored my tracks. We were going too fast to stop & move it & was best to keep the group together at night. It has been that type of year where rocks get kicked up & when it gets very bad we slow down to about 35mph so rocks & stones don't clack in tunnel. If we can we get off trails like that ASAP divert to Frs. Thanks I know excatly where you were now & no where near Watersmeet.
