Chaincase Drain Plug

I just stripped the drain plug on my 2002 XC. I stripped where the allen head goes not the threads. I got the plug out with an easy out. I thought I saw a thread on here of a better solution for a plug than another Polaris plug. Anyone?

Had the same thing happen to mine. Had a friend weld a 7/16 nut on it and it has been fine ever since.

Why not replace it with an oem Polaris drain plug? Just don't over-tighten it, just snug is fine!

If you use something other than that, make sure it doesn't stick out (down) too far as to possibly catch on anything.

Prior to the Rush/Pro-Ride chassis, I've seen & heard of many having issues with stripped drain plug threads in the chaincase housing, luckily yours wasn't!

To fix this problem use a 1/8 pipe plug and tap out the hole for it to fit. This is a common problem for the drain plug to strip out the threads in the chain case. When changing chain case oil the chain case cover should be removed so the chain case can be cleaned out and a inspection of the chain and gears to avoid future problems.I have found alot of problems in the chain cases(in the shop not on the trial) when changing the oil like broken links in the chains ,broken gears, or the bottom gear bolt broken off.

The OP stated "I stripped where the allen head goes not the threads."
So the threads in the case are good.

But if it were the threads in the case, the fix mentioned above is a good fix for that problem.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I always just snug it but it seems to tighten up on itself! I bought an OEM plug. I am going to verify the proper wrench size and SAE or metric before installing and write it right on the belly pan! I just had the cover off for inspection 500 miles ago. Less mess to drain before removing cover.

FYI, it's the same size as the allen set screw at the underside of the throttle block

I have encounter a few really tight plugs. What has worked for me is a 3/16 allen socket (usually 1/4 drive) on a adapter to 3/8 drive on a rachet. put the allen in the plug and tap slightly to set it tight. Put ratcket on and apply pressure, tap the head of the ratchet with small hammer as you apply pressure with the rachet. It has not failed to remove even a tight plug......
