Long story short this was originally from Amazon. At first glance, nothing seemed off—aside from the generic box labeled Super Clamp II and Made in China. I didn’t think much of it, assuming it may have been reboxed. Plus, I figured most products like this are manufactured in China, even if they're assembled in other countries, where the company is headquartered.
However, I inspected closer, I started noticing small details that didn’t seem right.
So the other, I decided to call Bowdriks Industries, the company that makes the Super Clamp. They were very helpful, and I asked if they were aware of any knock-offs in circulation. They said no, which reassured me a bit. Then I asked if there were any identifying markings on the authentic product—such as date codes or unique stamps—specific to their manufacturing process. While they didn’t mention anything super specific, they did confirm that authentic Super Clamp II units are molded with "Made in Canada" as part of the manufacturing process.
Well, guess what? The one I bought says "Made in China" on the box and only has "Super Clamp" along with a warning about exceeding 800 lbs molded into it.
I let them know that this one seems to be a knock off so at least so they're aware they're out there.
Lesson learned the hard way for me maybe this will save somebody else some aggravation.
Basically, thought my story ended there but received an email from them today and they're interest in this and I'll be working with them to get this clamp to them so they can check things out closer.
I do have plans to get a few of the real ones ordered up. As you know these aren't the most inexpensive things. So I'll probably buy one or two here and there. Eventually I'll get everything that I need... But I can say even with the knockoff version I see the value in them, especially with how fast they attach!
