Clamshell Trailer Freezing Shut.

I have a Sled Bed enclosed trailer with fiberglass top. It has a gasket that seals completely around the outside edge. The problem is that is freezes shut when it rains, etc. I can't get it open and don't want to pry it open for fear that I will wreck the gasket. What can I use to stop it from freezing, but yet not wreck the gasket?

I think this was on the board about a week ago but usually you need to lube the seal WD40/ silocone/vasaline. I really wish I could spell

We leave the back of ours open a crack when it sits. we put the pins in and lower the shell onto the pins. Then lift the back to break the seal on the front. We dont seem to have a problem with it freezing shut when we tow it just when it sits and freeze thaw

Mount a thin strip of plastic were the gasket contacts the trailer...

Does this really work? On my enclosed clam shell the foam gasket sits on the side rails so plastic mounting won't work. across the back carbides would run over plastic. How do I attach to keep in place? Sand and grit stick in the petro jelly and gets all over my bibs at knee level when strapping sleds down. Hot water freezes. I think we can make some Deneros if we solve this one. It is a very legit issue.

Wax it

I gave mine a heavy dose of car wax on the seal and also the aluminum the seal rests on. Seemed to help for the season.

Now that Sled Bed doesn't sell these anymore does anyone know where to get parts for the fiberglass\clam part. Things such as the lift shock, latch, lift arm parts, etc. I talked to a Sled Bed rep and they were of no help.

I had one of these trailer for 10 years and never had a problem with the cap freezing shut. I usually made it a point to knock off some of the snow and grime from the front to help reduce the moisture and weight. The only problem I had with this trailer was the plastic spacer on the front part would rip off from the carbides periodically. Otherwise, it was a great unit to have!

Screw the plastic down wit ss screws same as you would with ski guides... With a clamshell its also best to carry a couple spray cans of windshield deicer cuz nothing is fool proof... If ya use petro jello put a real thin coat'n on...Silcone spray will also help but make sure ya don't get the food grade as it seems to freeze up...

My enclosled trailer seals will freeze or when running through slopp and then hit cold temps. I took a small plant spray bottle and put in a little anti-freeze. Before we leave out and when dong my final check of things, I will lightly mist the seals. It doesn't take much. Never had another problem.
