Cleaning Carbs on a 95 AC Cougar

Let me start off by saying..... This is why I bought an EFI Sled! Im cleaning the carbs for a friend and having a few problems. I took the carbs out soaked them in Carb cleaner and brushed them out. Then blew air through them. Put them back on and got it started but at first it would only run on half choke then finally had to get it down to no choke but had to keep juicing it pretty hard to keep the sled running. Should I pull the carbs and clean them again? Any words of wisdom will be appreciated! Also these Mikuni carbs have electrical wires on them, not sure what they do...

FYI - This sled has not been ran in 3 years....... So i drained the old gas out, put new gas in, new plugs, ect.....

Sounds like you did everything right. Before you redo the carbs again buy a rebuild kit for the fuel pump unit. I'm sure it's at the end of it's life. I beleive the wires are for electric fuel shut off. should the throttle stick.

Pulled the carbs found that the Pilot jet was plugged. Cleaned everything again and now I have a new prolblem. It starts easy but idles extremely high, about 3000 rpm. I adjusted the idle screw and had no change.... not sure what to think..... any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

When I set the carburetors on mine first I make sure the throttle cable is adjusted evenly on both carbs, and then I turn the idle screws out about 3-1/2 to 3 turns out and just play with it until it idles around 1800. Rpm. if it still idles high start with the idle screws 4-1/2 turns out. As for the wires on the side of the carburetors that is the trottle safety switch like t660redrocket said is incase the throttle sticks, but lots of times on the older sleds it acts up and so most just bypass it, but do it in a way so that they can still use there kill switch.

Sounds like the cables need to be ajusted down some, so the idle scews can regulate the throttle slides. Could also be an air leak, make sure the carb boot is not torn or leaking. Spray a little wd-40 around it with it running, and see if the RPM changes.

Do you have the plungers in the correct position? Rotate it 180 deg. and screw the top back on. Your cables should be fine where they were set previously. If the fuel hasn't been done you really should do that too.
