Clutch set up for riding in Wyoming

I have a 2009 Renegade 600 E-tec. We are going to the Snowy monuntains in Wyoming at the end of December. Can anyone tell me what changes need to be made to the clutch to be set up right? I heard it might be possible to just make an adjustment in the clutch clicker instead of changing weights. I think the elevation will be somewhere around 6000-8000 ft for most of the riding, but don't really know because we have never been there before.

You need a Cam in the Secondary(Driven) 40 degree 417 126 956-- Hollow long threaded Pins (3) 417 222 595-- purple Green Clutch Spring 415 015 400-- it also calls for 3 Ramps 417 222 546(414) we did not do the Ramps and it seemed ok at 6000-10000ft--Adjust Clickers When you get there so it runs at 8000/8100 at the lower elevation, it will drop as you climb.Parts are around $200, also if you will need all the Tools and you should have someone help you that knows what they are doing, it takes me about 2 Hrs with all the Tools.

My Son has the same Sled so we bought it all for his. We bought the Pins that stay in and you thread the weights in for here and take them out for out West. The parts above are the OEM numbers.

The Tools can be purchased from Chris at C&R or C&S> He is a Doo talk Sponsor. Another 150.00 for Clutch and Secondary Tools needed.

You are running out of time if your going in December.

Yes you must change this stuff or you will wreck Belts and have a terrible trip. Been there done that. Luckily I watched some one try it.

I had a 06 Renegade 600 SDI that my son rode at Togwotee. All we did was slide the clicker all the way over to 5 from 2 or3? That was it, ran great all week, climbed as best it could with the stock track, no bog, no dog. It did not have any power on the 2 or 3 setting. weights and spring were whatever came with the sled stock for Michigan. It worked for us. Not sure for you. But I didn't spend a bunch of money and probable lucked out. I do absolutely nothing with my clutching on my RMK 755CFI. ride it in MI and WY with it set up for 7200' to 8600' range. Had both sleds up to 10,400' and as low as 600' The doo just needed the clicker setting changed.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will probably leave it alone at first and see what happens. Hopefully I get lucky too. I might contact a dealer in Wyoming and see what they have to say

People read way to deep into this Clutching jetting thing. It is NOT rocket science as some would lead you to believe. If your at Togwotee lodge you can get all the help you would ever want on changing setups. Basic clicker change on a Renegade is it. xyooper, hoffmansledder is talking Snowies not Tog. Snowies are even less in altitude. I get to close the Red Fox in less than a month from now. Lava Mtn. a Month Later. getting geeked!

Do what you want, but my Son is going to buy the Ramps this year because he said his did not run just perfect last year when he skipped the Ramps. Goodwin told us the cam was a must 48 degrees to 40 degrees is a big change. My 09 GTX Etek only needs a Spring and weights. Also mine would not run with a Dayco Belt, it blew in 2 days and when I put my old OEM back on it ran great out west.

If you are only going to Ride trails and are over 50 you may be ok not changing. We have 2 Etek Sleds and this Renegade is different than the rest. Skidoo even recommends changing the Chain/Sprocket for Permanent use at High Altitude.

If you do not change you will run at 7000 Rpm at clicker setting 5 and have no power.

Some with Clutch kits in there Sleds have better luck than Stock set ups, but that also costs.

Marty and I both have new Skidoo's not a Polaris.
Have a nice Trip

Thanks for all the tips. I called a dealer in Laramie, WY and talked to the service department. He said for a 5 day trip just change the clicker to 5 and run it. He said the changes aren't significant enough to spend the money on, but if I wasn't happy when I got there to bring it into them and they would make the changes.

Now isn't that what I said? Been there, done that. Save your money. Glad to know that the Dealer in Laramie isn't selling you a bunch of stuff you don't need. I have never met a dishonest Snowmobile dealer in Wyoming. Indiana and Illinois are another topic.

Why change it here, when there's a Dealer out there you can bring it to and waist a half a Day and Pay him the same hourly Charges to put the stuff in and take it out that would have paid for the Tools you could have bought and used next year.
