Clutching help

I'm guessing a rebuild kit, or maybe just a new spring, but have to ask.

Sled is a 1993 XCR440 (Shocker) and though its my kids and he hasn't quite mastered the throttle pinning yet, I still get on it once in a while.

It will crank to 8000+ RPM's when you first punch it, but then will drag the motor down to 7000 RPM's and really won't let it wind back up to 8000 unless your running it on a lake for a long time. It used to hold 8k pretty well, but doesn't any more.

Which part should I attack first in the clutches?

i have heard that a weak secondary clutch spring can cause engine rpm to run low. aprox. $20 ? part. might be worth checking out.
