I was looking to get a set of 3 but man thats $900 are there any other brands that use RF instead of Blue tooth for connecting that are as good or at least close. It seems like the Blue tooth models only have a range of around 500 feet or so am i missing something.

Our group uses Chatterbox. We have had good luck, used them for probably 15 years, upgraded models every so often, but old ones still work.

Saber1 range is not bad but what is advertised is under perfect condition. In my opinion all manufacturer do this. I'm still looking for something better, but these will do the job. Don't get me wrong I like mine, I have had them since around 2002 I think. They still work but don't expect a perfect conversation... The only way the radios would be better is if there were repeater towers... If you want to get together a check mine out PM me. I'm available this weekend too and just up the road from you.

I do know some of the cheap blue tooth ones on Amazon are much more clear, but you lose range.

The 900 Platinum

Here is a demo video I found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RySKJvMsjq8 It is semi-accurate... Notice in the trees they are fairly tight together, on the lake they are farther apart. I know the only time I'm at that speed and distance is with my kids. Also who is talking can make a big difference. If the person gets the mic to key-up before talking you don't miss the first word they say. Collett may say 2 miles and as much as I like them I still say no way. Just not enough power. At the fire department, we have the Motorola APX radios (at $6000 each) and it won't reach 2 real-world miles without repeaters without trouble.

From my experience, cut the advertised range by at least half. Communicators are great for keeping a riding group together front to back, but if someone makes a wrong turn they are not effective search tools. When you really figure out how to use them, you'll hate to be without them.

Long time Chatterbox guy. They are terrible about stocking old replacement parts, but for the price, battery life, and general features I just keep upgrading as needed.
