Comparison between the pending storm and the Fitz storm

No two storms are every equal and this will be the case between the storm for Thur/Fri and the storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgearld on Nov 10, 1975, but the does look to be some strong similarities between the two storms with their track and strength, with some ideas calling for the pending low to actually have a deeper central pressure than the "Fitz Storm".

I created the graphic below to help illustrate things.

Going to be an interesting Thur night and Friday in the Keweenaw!

That is good to know. That will make visibility difficult but I am still going to ride from Copper Harbor to Isle Royale during the storm. I guess I will just have to wear my helmet instead of my sun visor. JK.

Leaving for D's Base Camp at 6 AM Thursday morning from SE Wisconsin. Hoping to stay ahead of the storm on the way up. Fingers crossed.

How much snow did the Fitz storm produce??? We were planning to come over Thursday night, but I think we are staying on the north shore now.

Another good question with this storm is will the winds be strong enough to bust up some of the lake ice and get the LES snowguns working again. Lets hope it churns the waters of the big lake on epic per portions.

Interesting to see that the Fitz low passed right over where they sank. Yes this storm is exciting, we have only had a couple of storms this year.

So the lower the number at 973 means it will be even more severe of a storm ?

Winds are created by the difference in pressure over a given distance (pressure gradient). So in general, the lower the pressure, the stronger the winds. However, there can also be a strong pressure difference created by a large area of high pressure following the low. There is a pretty big high pressure to sit to the west of the low, so the gradient should be pretty healthy. But like I say, no two storm are ever equal, even if they have strong similarities in track and central pressure. Only time will tell what this thing will do, but looking at the latest guidance, it is suppose to be even stronger (lower pressure) than what I put on the map, so my emotions have gone from excitement, to more concern. I just hope things do not get as bad as I envision.

Yep a phrase i heard if the pressure is dropping a storm is arising. And really from excitement to concern? Sweet! It has been real quiet this year, decent snow but no big storms or significant lake effect so far.

Got about 7" total at my place. Cleared the driveway last night and a couple neighbors as well. Just as I was finishing up the wind came up. this morning I had 2 foot drifts in the driveway so out at 5:30 to start clearing snow. Did the same three driveways went in the clean up and go to work. I am starting to know what the yoopers feel like at this time of year my old crapsman blower just barely shoots the snow over the piles at the end of the driveway.
