we will be heading to the U.P. the 13th - 19th, one of the rides we have planned will be Baraga, Lance, Big Bay, Michigamme loop, we will be based out of the root cellar, have seen posts concerning trail 109 and silver mountain area. Is there any concern or avoidances with taking 12 out of mass city to 109 to 8/15 to Lance and I realize trail conditions can change daily but how have trail 14 and 8
to and past big bay been holding up? have heard 8 gets pretty beat on weekends especially when warmer but looks like colder weather setting in. Any information would be greatly appreciated, would probably plan on this loop on Monday the 17th so a little less traffic and hopefully trails refreshed after the weekend.

Like you said, your trip in the world of snowmobiling is a long way off...but I rode trail 8 from Gwinn to the 5/8 junction last Wednesday and it was perfect. I'm sure west of that junction would have been good too. The 8/15 trail from Sidnaw to L'Anse was so bad we turned around and heading back to Sidnaw. This could have changed with one good groom on a cold night (which we had since then) and low traffic. The snow was great, just needed attention and some cold temps. If it was me I would try it again.

Rode most of those trails last week as well and they were great. 8/15 was bumpy especially on the pipeline, but the next day they had groomed and it was smooth again. L’Anse was the most snow covered and the best shape I have seen it in many years. We went from Watersmeet to Big Bay and spent the night. Then on to Copper Harbor for a few days and then down to Lake of the Clouds. Most everything we rode was good, we did find a few bad spots but overall was good. We took 109 out of Sidnaw which then put us on 12 to Mass City I believe, 109 just south of Twin Lakes was still open so I’m not sure why we didn’t end up on it. I don’t think we took a wrong turn the trail just put us on 12. Wanted to take 109 from Twin Lakes and figure out where we messed up if anywhere, I heard some trail washed out and it may have been 109 not sure.

yes the washout was on 109 and there was a re-route until it can be fixed. That's probably why it messed you up.

Has Baraga groomed 109 from Alston north to the Powerline turn a round, where Superior Snowmobile club takes over as yet? I guessing no?
