Riding northeast from Sidnaw Sunday, anyone ride that area towards Mass today?
Thank you Bear
Today rode from Sidnaw Station north and east and north and westish to break in the new 18 850 Rene.
Took 8/15 heading north and that bit of trail was great, turned left onto 109 (no groomers land) and it was rough and ungroomed as we know it can be. That's where the excuses end, 109 north from 12 to trail 3 was beat to poop and looked as if a groomer had not been there for days.
Took 3 north to the Keewenaw gas station (next to Parkview) and trail was ok, (loose snow on top covering small moguls). Turned around and went south to the 12 east cut off and rode just 12 past the Rosseau Bar, that trail was quite good but once I got to the road trails they were 100% bare and unpassable as the sun got to them.
Turned around heading west on 12 back to trail 3 and went south on 3 to the Greenland cut off where the snow was getting quite wet and decided to head back towards the truck in Sidnaw via 109 just south of Krupps.
Before hitting 109 off 3 I stopped at Krupps for gas and a pasty, very good. My very first tank after 104 miles was 18.8 MPG, not bad.
Back on 109 I cursed the trail for most of the 40ish mile ride until I got to the 8/15 cut off north, when I thought I would check that out.
Glad I did, rode the power lines for a bit on 8/15 and they were excellent all the way to Baraga after changing to trail 15. Turned around at Baraga on 15 and went south to the 8/15 cutoff and went east on 8/15 which was also groomed perfectly. I was surprised to see Baraga trails to be so nice as they are a challenge during high season but today perfect.
Hit 200 miles for the day and turned back on 8/15 back towards Sidnaw for a nice second half of the day.
First question, what happened to 109? It wasn't the snow as 8/15 was outstanding!
Oh well, that happens.
Two pics attached, one is from the Keewenaw gas station facing north and the second is at the 8/15 and 109 intersection.
