Public service announcement.
Had bit of a mishap this am. Was hauling my sled trailer this am to pick up parents snowblower. About 2 blocks from home Left a four-way stop bit hastily, hit some uneven road and wham! Trailer popped off ball!!😬. First time ever had that happen.
Luckily was probably only going 15mph and luckily chains held trailer up. Latch was still down as it was padlocked!!!!
Checked it back home ..cranked jack so coupler was 4" higher, jumped on bumper and it held and was no play. I did manage to adjust coupler bolt about half turn make clamp tighter.
Anyways just something might want to look at next time you hitch up.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago on highway 41 at road speed. Trailer was empty and hitch disengaged like yours. Trailer dropped down on the chains and I was able to exit at the first chance with the trailer whipping back and forth. The only damage was one pair of shorts and some heavy abrasion to the bottom of the tongue. Lesson learned, adjustments made.

Sadly, it happened to me but just a little different. Had a 1 7/8 ball for a 2" hitch. Uh-oh. Ran that way about 150 miles and didn't disengage until I was at the dealer! L:esson learned, now all I have are trailers that are 2" or 2 5/8".
