Coyote Mount

I got my coyote mount back and it seems to be a lot lighter color then when I took it in. Would the colors fade like this? It had a lot of redish orange in it but now its a lot lighter.

if the person who did the work sends them in to be tanned looks like you got the wrong hide back .if he did it himself wow .i cant believe it would lighten up that much .i have number of mounts and never had that .

I never thought about him sending the hyde out to get tanned. Im not sure if he does it himself or sends it out so Ill have to check with him. I thought it looked a lot lighter when I picked it up but I didnt compare the pictures until this morning.

I haven't seen one lighten up that much, I always put a small notch in the ear on my deer so I know I get the same one back so far no problems

Hmmmm, my guess is you got a different doggie back. Having said that however different lighting (natural vs. floresent) and different cameras can do that. BUT since you saw it with your own eyes before and after and notice a difference I'd be skeptical.

I am no expert, but I don't think that they really "tan" the hides they mount, but rather preserve them with a less intensive and easier process.

If I had to guess, I would say that your hide got switched. Maybe guy liked yours and figured you would notice, or maybe he made a mistake and needed another hide to "get the job done" if you get my notion.

Sure looks like two different Yotes...

Well I went home last night after work and did a little investigating and it is my yote. I didnt want to call the guy and ask him about it before I took a better look at it. I remember when I shot mine it had a spot about 1"x2" on its belly that was bare so I went and looked at it last night and the spot was still there once I moved the hair away. So I'm not sure if the hide just turns to a lighter color after it is washed because Im sure they are a filthy animal and after the animal loses all its living tissue.

not an expert in coyote mounts at all, but IMO that does not look like a good mount at all. the legs and eyes just dont look natural at all.

maybe thats how they are supposed to look, i have no idea, just my opinion.

I really don't think that is the same coyote. also the mount as others have said doesn't look so good. eyes, sitting position, etc. Sorry! I would talk to the taxidermist and ask some questions about the color, etc. I had a taxidermist switch up a 12 1/2" natural blue gill on me after he freezer burned mine. He sent me an 11 1/4" hybred gill in its place. He is now out of business for his practice with others in our little town. (word travels fast).

The eyes are kind of crazy and I decided to go with that position because when I shot it with my muzzleloader I blew a big a$$ hole in its back/butt so it was easier to patch it up. Overall I was pretty happy with the mount besides the crazy eyes.

I do not hunt.

I know nothing about taxidermy.

Those are two different animals

Also, the look in his eyes makes me think he saw you bending over naked

You need a new taxidermist, the color is way off (who knows why?)But other than that thats a terrible mount he looks frozen, Between my brother and father and my self we have around 125 north american big game mounts. Some definetly better than others, and there's nothing worst than looking at your trophy reliving those memories and the mount doesn't do it justice. Find a new taxidermist thats a horrible mount for such a great trophy.
