Crawdads Crawfish Crayfish Mud Bugs

I started a new hobby last week. I live on a lake that was killed off last fall. They restocked in the spring. I was down there throwing a buck tail just for the heck of it and I kept getting really light hits. I couldn't figure it out until I pulled this in.

This got me thinking with no fish there must be millons of them.

I built a few traps out of chicken wire and baited first with bacon and then with turkey necks. I have trapped about 3 dozen in less than a week.

I built this holding cage for them and hope to have a crawfish boil before the snow flys.

Does anyone trap these bugs? What is the best bait and trap design that you have found? I

Your pics don't work.
But think I know what your talking about. We have them in the river also.

Not much to eat there, someone I know tried it on a bet, sitting around the fire one night.

Make sure your fishing license is current, LOL

I don't think they are rusty. There are what looks like several different varitys.

You are right about the rotten stuff. My turkey necks worked great at first but once they turned it really slowed down. I refreshed the bait yesterday and am excited to get home and see how the soak went. I am going to try some liver tonight.
