Credit Cards Strip Or Chip?

coldbear, you are correct, the chip card processing at the till is much slower.
I have to say that the slow readers here are a pain.

I have dealt with chip cards for quite some time in Europe. They do process speed like our old strip cards over there.


We had a separate card when Europe started their conversion years ago. American cards required the cashiers to manually enter numbers at each transaction. Now, that is really slow.

That's because it is not a real credit card. The Target REDcard is a store card that can be used only in Target stores for purchases. The Target REDcard Visa is a credit card as well, and can be use anywhere that Visa is accepted in the world. The standard Target REDcard is linked to your bank account and is basicly is a debit card that gives you extra discounts. Depending on how much you buy there it can save you a lot of money.

You are correct. I never even paid attention that it's not issued by a payments company because we only signed up for it for the Target discounts.

But they also have a REDcard Master Card that has both chip & strip. They killed our REDcard Visa a few months back and replaced it with the M/C version. Some stores require a PIN, many don't. Edit: and it's a true credit card....no ties to our bank at all.
