I think the "stock" windshield is what is known as a Mid-Height which I think is 12". That measurement is taken at the center. If you don't add a riser to the stock bars, the handguards will hit the windshield. Keep in mind, the 12" windshield does provide enough hand protection with the stock bars. If you do install a telescopic steering post, you may also have to change your handle bars. I can't recall the 08 bars, but I know the 06 & 07 Crossfires had a tall set of bars. I have an 06 & had a 09 snow pro post & bars put on & I did not need to mess with longer throttle or brake cable. I will never have another backwoods sled with out that feature. I didn't mess with the hand guards, cause when your stand up riding in the backwoods, your working your azz off & you don't have a cold hand.-Mezz
