CVT Transmision in ATV's

Does anyone know why ATV's are set up with grears and transmissions? Why couldn't some be set up like a snowmobile. I would think that the acceleration would be better alson with the top end. I realize that this wouldn't be for every ATV application but has anyone tried it?

alot of the utility quads have a cvt drive system same with the side x sides. even the polaris scamblers have them too.

Most of the popular brands are CVT, Polaris, Can-AM, Yamaha.

Honda is the only one that is not belt driven that I an think of, they have a car like auto trans with torque converter.
