Depressing forecast...

I was hoping to see some "decent" snowfalls projected for norther wis. this morning. Looks like a dusting of snow where I go (NE Wis.) and rain down where I live is SE Wis. in the next ten days. That leaves about 40 days left of riding before the March sun starts to take its toll. When will this nightmare end!!!!!

Agree, it's like a bad dream that never ends, day after day with no snow and forecasts that never turn out to anything. So far the winter that wasn't, I'm starting to wonder why I even stay in this sport.

It won't require March sun to end it. With so little snow on the ground, February sun will take its toll. The first couple days we get in mid February with a south wind and bright sunshine, game over. We have so little snow on the ground right now it won't take long for the trees to soak up the bright sun and start holding that heat. You will see bare spots around trees getting bigger and bigger.

Why I even continue to waste the space in my garage with worthless snowmobiles is beyond me. Call me stupid I guess. I bought a new Jet Ski last summer but it is just not the same. One thing is for sure, it will ALWAYS be hot in the summer. That you can bank on!

I hate living in MN with a passion. There is not one thing about the state and it's outdoor activities I like. I moved here about 15 years ago cause my wife wanted to be closer to her family. HUGE mistake! I was in CO. That place is really crowded and too busy for me. Western MT is where I'm headed. Too bad I'm in an occupation that has ZERO reward for relocating this late in my career. I will just have to tough it out for 11 more years.

Geez man chill out. Why don't you do like the majority of us MN or WI people in the winter. Take up drinking!!!

Bust after bust this year for Northern WI, still time but not on the up side of the season any longer.:( I can't trailer to UP every day but there is lots of snow in the traditional LES snow belts of the UPMI. So if you want to ride UPMI only place with snow.

Well, here is your anti-depressant for this afternoon... The midday runs from the models put the storm back into the forecast for much of the Northwoods next Tuesday. I would like to see this idea be repeated by other model runs before I give it a lot of faith, but at least there is a glimmer of hope that has returned to the forecast for the Northwoods outside of the LES belts for next week.

Thanks John for the hope.:) Rhinelander NBC is saying mix rain snow on Tuesday but not a storm & 45 miles south of Phelps so maybe we can get the snow we need to ride to UPMI. 6" would go a long way for us with the 2-3ish" powder snow today.

Yea, that forecast is probably based on previous model runs. The latest run had only been out 5-10 minutes when I posted. So I guess we'll see what other model runs say, but some forecasts may even change based on this one model run. It is from the one that most media outlets use in their forecast out beyond day 2-3.

Mid day Rhinelander NBC weather is still saying rain snow mix on Tuesday but now saying they have to keep an eye on Tuesday so they must have looked at new models too. Sure hope we can get 4-6" of wet heavy snow!

From all my covert forecasting data, accumulated thru eve's dropping, hearsay and generaly watching the sheep and goats wandering in the field....I am happy to report the following:

The short term forecast will turn into a longer term prediction and the "snows" will begin and they will NOT BE STOPPING...so, by the end of March there will be so much snow in the snow belt areas that you will need a long track sled to get around...and that is the good news....the bad news is Lenny will still be looking for an engine to his funky long track that only goes 12 mph....

For all those who have been praying for snow, it looks like your wish is coming true. Unfortunately, getting up to and back out of the snow areas will be a real trick. However, since many sled owners who have been tricked into thinking winter is over will have their sleds on the market fairly cheap...so you might want to pick one or two up, and store them at Lenny's garage (be sure to take the keys with you tho...enough said about that)

We now turn you over to your regular forecasting expert!

 Michigan, too!

That was last year for me. I've used it once so far this year, so I'm already ahead of the game. And we're close to, if not over, the amount of snow we had all of last "winter". Unfortunately, I know of no trails in the metro Detroit area that I can ride.

Well if you can trailer to the Hurley/Ironwood area, lots of snow recently and sleds are everywhere.. Finally it's looking like it should here. Glad to hear the storm is in the forecast. Tom S said snow for the northwoods on tonight's news.

I could.....but 11-12 hours one way isn't yet an enticing prospect. Northern lower has decent snow now too, will be heading there Monday. Never rule out a farther trip if need be, though!
