I have an 2008 Chevy Duramax and I am wondering if I need to use the grille cover during the winter to control the air flow into the radiator. I used it on my 04 Duramax but I am wondering with the new motor if it is necessary. Also can anyone enlighten me on exactly what they do. I would appreciate it. Thanks rcskidoo

I would say at or below 10 degrees it is a good thing. I worry more about the transmission getting hot if you use it above 20 degrees. These new emission motors run much hotter than the old diesels and also have things like fuel heaters ect... I have a 6.0 liter powerstroke as well as a duramax and ford doesn't even offer a cover but it came standard with the duramax. Whats that tell ya...

Well they use to come standard on the duramax maybe 4 years ago but has not in awhile. Its an option for a few years. I had 3 duramax's and never used the cover even when it was below 0. I would just have remote start and not worry about it. I used the remote start at -20 and not plugged in and no problems.

I have never used a cover on my 06 Dmax. ••••, I don't even know where the plug is located to plug it in. It was -25 up in Canada and it fired right up. That time I had forgot that it had a plug anyway. I think it behind the driver side front wheel on the fender. Someday I will look for it. A cover was not standard in 06 as far as I know. If it was it may be under the rear seat. Someday I will look for that too.

I have an 03 CTD and I was concerned with this. We went to the UP in the deep freeze. It was -24 when we got to Green bay. I had the heat on high and the water temp stayed normal. So I would say no you don't need a grille cover.
