EDIT: Nevermind. Guess it is staying as "non-motorized". My bad. Mods feel free to delete.

If it actually happens, this is yuge news for the trail system in the Keweenaw. Will take massive amounts of trail pressure off of 3, assuming they plan to also open back up Baraga to Chassell in conjunction. All done before next sled season, or they say.

And "studies" being done for Freda loop and 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden. So at least that's something.

They only mention Chassel which is good but I totally agree with you it’s a tremendous lift to the snowmobile economy if they can reopen 15 from Baraga which will pull in Lanse routes as well especially with 109 shut down only 3 can get you to the Keewee by trail. Property owners have blocked trail 15 with land fill for years and I believe the judge told them to open up years ago but DNR did nothing. I’m not convinced by this article that Baraga will be open and poor Chassel just died on the vine with zip winter economy without trails.

My sentiments exactly. We still have so much damage that has needed repair for the motorized trails around here, I cannot believe such a poor decision has been made. That project should be AFTER the trails that bring the tourism to the area are made usable again! Now they announce that a study will be done over the course of the summer to evaluate the 2018 flood damage? ***??? How many tourist dollars do you get from a Non Motorized trail? Plain ridiculous. Been waiting for 3 years already, enough is enough with moronic bureaucracy. -Mezz

Typical, they do the less costly projects first. According to several locals who live by the trail in Hubbell/Lake Linden, they (contracted consultants) were surveying/mapping it last year. I would assume they are working on estimates/easements etc for work. Different terrain and its likely to cost 5x as much.
