DNR trail map mileage?

I'm doing some research for an upcoming trip. I pulled up the PDF trail maps but the mileage marks they have don't make any sense to me. What am I missing? I.e. What is the mileage from houghton to twin lakes. Map says 133mi? Mileage on the Freda loop looks accurate but what's with the big numbers elsewhere? image.jpg

I had the same issue a couple of years ago. I found two ways to get the info. I looked up many of the clubs there and found their maps, which most had good mileage on them. The other place is through MSA website.

There you can click on each of the dots, it will give you that areas trail reports and at bottom there is map that you can access and print out. Has really good info on them too, such as food and gas (verify gas before you assume it is going to be there).

Here are a couple of other maps.

I like these for large overall maps of the UP

The distance is probably in the area of 33 miles, roughly. Sorry, I can't help you with the rest, I don't use maps around here.-Mezz
