my group was buying belts at M and M in Houghton (Chad's guys) a few years back and they told us it was

"Bring Rings and Pistions"

so I started doing that, for my 800 summit and 600 renagade, now they both have almost 10,000 miles each on them and my mechanic said we should put them in so I guess the guys were right!!!

not sure I needed to haul them around for 9 years though

I do like machines with good build quality and think they are all decent these days, might have not said this back in the 80’s and 90’s…I think they all have to be decent these days, it’s kinda hard not to be.
Some companies are better at quality control and there some that take the lead in this for sure.
More so than ever machines break down due to lack of maintenance and with time so limited for most in power sports it's hard to keep a machine in optimal shape.
How many people check oil consumption based on gas usage and adjust so accordingly? More of an issue for older sleds, but still probably could have saved a lot of pistons due to this.
Also how many checked behind the clutch to see if bearing grease was leaking out…..really more of an issue if the sled is run hot all the time due to icy trails or overheating it once or twice. Also who has ever checked for water in there gas or put fresh gas in at the beginning of every season. Or cleaned the carb every year or 2 to prevent a lean condition. I would say most failures are due to running machines in less than optimal conditions and lack of maintenance. I now buy things mainly on comfort/handling and ease of maintenance.
