John,
Thanks for such a great Web Site. I live in California and make an annual trip (this is my 3rd) to the UP with my buddies in Chicago. We are comming to the UP on Feb. 7th and will be staying up at Lac La Belle. We are picking up our sleds in Houghton and I was wondering about the Dreamland Snowmobile trail (we read about it in your Journal). Is it worth taking a day and riding this trail? Is it easy to find and a good ride. Thanks again for hosting your site.

Tom-

The Dreamland Trail is certainly a pretty one and worth the ride. However, there have been easement issues out on Point Mills (between Dollar Bay and Dreamland/Bootjack), so the trail has to use the side of the road for sections where it used to be entirely through the bush. Once across Portage Lake and into Bootjack, then the trail is all through the bush again up to the main trail just outside of Lake Linden.

It is not hard to find the trail head in Dollar Bay, just look for the signs as you are traveling through the town. I have not been on the section through Point Mills in some time, so I do not know how well things are marked on the roads, but would imagine you can find your way through if you are paying attention.

Id' say give it a try if you want. Worst case is you have to turn around!

If you take the trail from dollar bay you do not have to ride along the side of the road. Follow where the tracks cross the road in point mills and you will be fine it is in great condition there i do alot of the maintence on the dreamland trail and i am planning on starting a trail report on the clubs web site which is valleysnodrifters.ipower.com and if you can make it on the 10th you can go to the spaghetti dinner at dreamland and you can buy tickets at the door for $6.00 a person or by contacting me at mobileboarder@yahoo.com the dinner is all you can eat
