Dually is squirly

My father just purchased a new GMC 3500 dually. We notice this thing is extreamly squirly in the snow. We have both had Dually's for a long time so not like we are coming from a straight axle to this. He used to have a 03 dodge and with weight it took care of if. But in this truck it is not working at all. I suggested running the tires low when not towing but being new it has those dummy lights to let you know tire's are low and it is just annoying. I suggested that he take the outside set of tires off (used to do this years ago). His response was I didn't buy a $70,000 truck to take wheels off....I just said you didn't buy a $70,000 truck to wrap it around a tree either.

So is anyone else noticing this or any suggestions? As of now he has about 200 lbs of sand, going to put some more in but he wants to wait a week or so cuz he is getting a 5th wheel hitch put in next week and doesn't want to move weight around in bed in case it freezes.

Taller/Narrower tires could help a little. 200# isn't going to touch the counter weight in the from of that thing, start in the 500# area and go from there.

Lower tire pressure should help, does it have a option of low or higher tire pressure? I know my friends dodge had that option so he could add or take out air for ride quality and not have light come on.

Hey Doug! How's it going!

That does seem strange...it's squirrely even on dry pavement? I bought a new 1 ton Dodge this spring, but went with an SRW because I know duallies have a hard time tracking in snow...the rear wheels will jump in and out of the rut created by the fronts...

Miked, no only in the snow. And yes about the dually but like I said not new to this so expect that. Actually have a rougher time when the road is actually plowed and just ice and smooth snow on it. When we are cutting snow not that bad.

1flatlander2,yes or sure on the tires but hard to swallow on a brand new truck with less then 2000 mile to go out and drop $1500 or so on a new set of tires.

My dad is looking over his manual good (another web site said on Dodges you can over ride the low tire sensor). Then he is going to take it into he dealer and see what they say and go from there. Thanks all for he responces.
