Left this morning from 3 Lakes, 12W to 12W/17N to Lake Tomahawk.Have to say the Shamrock has quite an excellent menu. Went north 270, 70A, club trails south of St. Germain past Pitlik's, 15S to Sugar Camp. Felt like Mary & Joseph, there was no room at any inn as everything in Sugar Camp was closed. Went south on 15, then 17A east of Rhinelander, stopped at Birchwood for the first time. An excellent example of a classic up north bar. Picked up 13 N back to 3 Lakes.
Have to say the riding is great. The trails by and large are groomed and flat. My old 2006 sled ran about 30 degrees hot, but the 2020 Indy's riding with me were in the 120's, so I think their computers must be keeping things cool better than my old sled. We managed to avoid as many roads as we hit yesterday but we still hit bare asphalt here and there. I feel like I've ridden more asphalt in the last 2 days then in the last 2 years, but i checked on my skags and I still have some dull carbides and full skags. Thought I might be down to the ski but things have held up well.
So, I'd say come on up and just be mentally prepared to ride some roads and you'll have a great time.
Pictures below: what the trails look like in the morning when they're frozen, a thin spot on the trails; and the best example of the riding right now: perfect off-road trail (13N south of 3 Lakes) that then runs along a road a half mile later. And this road is by far the best one we found. Every other one is bare past the shoulder.
