Eagle River / Three Lakes, WI during the summer?

We're thinking about doing our honeymoon this summer in Three Lakes, WI on the chain of lakes. I just ordered a new boat, and I would really like to get out and use it as much as possible. My question is, it looks like there are some nice resorts there on the chain, but are there also lots of restaurants and bars that we can dock at? How are the lakes for water sports? We don't fish, only hydrofoil and surf. We are also considering going to Okiboji, IA- Does anyone have any experience there as well for a fair comparison?

Put the boat on a trailer & visit smaller lakes for pristine hydrofoil ,watersking, barefootin. The chains are for cruising, sunnning & fishing. You can find a calm area here & there for watersports but smaller lakes calm all day. Some restaurant docking on chains but not dense. I think something like 13,000 lakes in Vilas county so lots to visit.

Chain of lakes

I would check out the Three Lakes side of the chain. Less traffic, more water, less slow no wake, and it still has a few bars and resturants for entertaining. I would check out www.northernaire.com they are a brand new condo complex right on the chain. Next door is a water ski show called the Aqua Devils who perform ski shows every wednesday and Sunday at 6:30. There are several marinas on the chain for service and one with a pro-shop that can supply you with anything you have forgotten, called watercraft sales. www.watercraftsales.com. I can't comment on Iowa, but I think you will love what the Northwoods has to offer. What type of boat did you pick up by the way?

Good Luck,

Summer TIme

We are on the Eagle River side of the chain and there is a ton of things to do on that side of the chain. You can find good water off in a corner almost any time of the day. Last summer, we were out footing at 2:00 in the afternoon on the Saturday of the 4th of July holiday allthough mornings are the best time to get out for water sports. There are numerous sand bars to hang out at and at least 6 restaurant/bars you can boat directly to. You can also park your boat at the north end by the highway 45 bridge and you are a block from downtown Eagle River. The Lake Forest Golf Course has a huge deck party every sunday with a band and lots of dancing. You can also take your boat across the Burnt Rollway dam and get to the Three Lakes side. There are several slow no wake channels on the Eagle River side but I actually enjoy going through those, there is rarely any wind and its kind of cool to people watch and just chill out. Wild Eagle Lodge and Eagle Waters have newer accomodations while places like Chanticler and Braywood have more rustic accomodations. It will be fun on either side especially if your wife-to-be enjoys water sports and hanging on the boat.

I love those deck parties! It doesnt get any better than listening to a good band and watching the sunset over Eagle Lake. In my mind boating up there is the best anywhere in the world. And like was said earlier, there is SOOO much water up there on the Chain that you cant even believe it. You can find plenty of quiet spots or you can race around in circles with the rest of them. Whatever is your thing you'll find space for it. The Chain is also very safe to boat in, not a whole lot of underwater dangers and the ones that are there are very well marked. Take a trip over the boat lift it's a great time. I used a website called vrbo.com, it's a website for vacation rentals by owner. Most all rentals are by the week (Sun-Sun). We paid 1200 for a private house for the week on Otter Lake.

Make the trip you wont regret it.

The Aqua Devils is free Admission and they do have a concession stand and a terrific bathroom set up also have a huge lawn, + you can watch by boat if you prefer, you miss out on some of the commentary, but can see the show in a different light as well. No offense to Eagle river, it is a great place to boat as well, but I don't think anyone can argue that there is a lot more water on the three lakes side, and you are the only one I have ever heard of who "likes" slow no wakes.. Plus last summer was quite chilly, very rare summer indeed thats probably why you found footin water at 2:00.. Thats a miracle, but cwkoch foils, so he probably doesn't care what the conditions are like because those things can go through anything.. Do you do any rolls or flips on the sky ski/air chair? If so I know some guys who would love to take a set from you. Like I said, either way Northern Wisco blows just about anywhere out of the water in the summer time.. Its a blast no matter what you choose. Take the boat over the dam, and let us know what your opinion is on which side you enjoyed more. Book the trip, you won't regret it.

Footin on Eagle River Chain at 2:00 PM on Saturday 4th of July....... what over the rollers or thru & around the pontoon boat parades? Both chains are nice but Three Lakes bigger & better & remember the water flows north Three Lakes to Eagle River chain so Three lakes has already used the water that fills Eagle River Chain. :)

i see your in mn and we have a place in crosslake on the whitefish chain, there are 12 lakes on the chain and lots of bars and restaurants with good food, gas at most of them, liquor store on the water and so on, its a great place, you can cruise your new boat all day and never see the same water all day long, i recomend boyds lodge on whitefish lake, they have some newer lodges to rent, or theres manhatan beach club, dagget villas, 2 hotels and a campground in town.
