Looking to start in Ishpeming/Marquette area and head east. Like to go through Munising/Grand Marais and over to Paradise. Im guessing thats about 150-180 miles so and doable in a day. Able to see Pictured Rocks Nat' Shorline? Best sights to see? Then come back the following day through Tahquamenon Falls.
Best place to stay or best route over there/back? Looks like trail 417 to trail 8 then might go do the Whitefish Point loop (452).
Any info would be helpful.

I went from Newberry up through the falls, gas in paradise, lunch in Pine Stump, gas in Grand Marais and finished at Christmas with 200 miles on the head. If you are starting in Ishpeming and going to Paradise in one day and adding the Whitefish Point loop, big miles=long day!

Went from Paradise to the Falls to Newberry on Wednesday. They have really been working on the Falls trail and have done a great job!

From Marquette headed East. trail 417 has a place called Lakenenland, you need to see this. East of Munising before you get to Shingleton, there is a spur trail that goes North to Miners Tower, very cool to see in the winter. Lakeshore trail to Grand Marais # 89 has nice views of the Pictured Rocks Shoreline & Log Slide is also on this trail. Then 8 to Paradise has some light house trails, then on to the whitefish point trail, another spur takes you to the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald & shipwreck museum, its closed in the winter. Then down to the Tahquamenon Falls, its worth the walk to see that also. There is lots of other stuff on the eastern side of the U.P. but you would need a few days to see it all.

Beautiful area, but have a backup plan if 8 is shot.

The forest fire area is also something to see, but also unavoidable because of the vast area destroyed.

I found that area very depressing and could not wait to get through it!

thanks for the info everyone. We did the trip over the weekend. about both directions about 240 miles each and took different routes. We went over along lake superior and back through the falls through Newberry/Seney/Shingleton/Gwinn. Definitely found all the flaws with the signage in this part of the UP. A couple T intersections near Pine Stump still have me scratching my head how trail 8 went 3 directions.
