Does anyone have or use one of these "room" heaters? Or does anybody have or use a different style? I want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly as "they" say. Thanks in advacne for your replies.

They are pricey. In my area Natural gas is way less than Electric. Everyone in my town is selling the Eden Pure. I suspect it will be a short lived Fad. My wifes Blow dryer does the same thing. Without the "Pretty box". I would put the money into insulation, caulk and weather stripping. Or towards up grading the primary heat source. Eden Pure uses a lot of techno terms for "heat lamps in a box". How long, if ever would the savings become a payback is the question to ask? Same with Pellets stoves. Sure they are nice, But so is pulling a snowmobile trailer with an H2 hummer, or a V10. Is it value? not so sure. I would try to remedy why a room needs it's own heater first.

I use a ceramic high quality disc furnace to warm up the cabin. I hear good and bad about eden pure. Many people use a oil filled heater as supplemental heat. They appear to be safer than most.

Here's why I'm looking into it...We burn a lot of wood downstairs in our finished, walkout basement. It's a wood insert that throws out a lot of heat, but the catch is then the main level of the home is cool because the thermostat gets kicked off. We thought that it would be nice to have another "source" for heat on the main level to keep the kitchen and livingroom warm too. Any other thoughts?

I am selling these things for 299.00 Have customers that swear how wonderful they are. Personally, I'm not 100% convinced. I am going to take one home and see how much my electric goes up on the old bill.

install a return opening on your furnace near the wood stove, then just run the fan to circulate the air.

I had a customer buy one and her electric bill went through the roof. Yes, it will cut your heating cost but raise your electric bill.

I have a pellet stove in the basement. To get the heat to circulate we run the furnace fan 24/7. Basement stays at 71 - upstairs stays 65/66. Electric bill went up $23 last month. This if for a 4200 sq. ft house.

We have run the fan off and on before but I wasn't sure how much elec. that would use. I may try that for a while and see how it works.

Running your fan will cost about 1$ per day if it is standard motor. If you are loofking at efficiency, resistive heat w/electrical is about the most expensive you can do w/o off peak electrical rates on a central system.

If a space heater is what you are looking for though, get the oil-filledradiator looking heater.. Safe and as effective as you can get for long term.

I am sitting right next to mine in my basement as we speak. It does a great job heating the entire finished basement. Are they as cheap to run as they advertise, no. Do they heat really well, yes. Do I recommend them to my friends, yes.

I just bought one and you can set it at half way and it will heat your living room with no problem. But if you want to go into a different room that is not edenpure ready you will know the difference in temperature. The heater is on wheels and shuts off 2 of the 3 heating elements when not needed. Just don't leave it on high the whole time and you will be good and run a ceiling fan on low to circulate the air and all will be happy.

If electric heat is what you want, any old heater will do the job. Electric is 100% effecient, they have no trick to make thiers more effecient than another.

While I have them available to me to sell, I choose not to. As a UPS shipping site, I see literally dozens of these get returned each year. Seems people either swear by them or absolutely hate them, most in my experience hate them.

If you need to take the chill out of a room, electric heat makes sense. To heat a larger area...I agree with the others, find another option....and wood pellets are awesome.

Have used one for two years. The best thing about them is that they are extremely safe. If you have small children or pets they will not be harmed by an Edenpure. However they are still just an electric space heater. All heat sources use energy or burn fuel. Don't expect to save a lot of money or heat a large area. They will take the chill off in a cool room. That is really about it in my experience.

Just go buy a cheap hardware store electric heater if you want electric. A watt is a watt. Heating with natural gas is half the price of heating with electric here in th u.p. anyway at about .14 cents a killowatt hour

Back in the late 70's before side kicks really came into play my folks heated a two story with full basemant house with a wood burner in the basement. We wired up a fan above the stove that pointed towards the doorway and had a thermo on it. Believe it or not the house was alway comfortable. Even the unstairs. Really came in handy during the winter of 76-78. Later in the mid 80's my dad bought a side kick to centralise the house and that was even nicer.
