We are planning a trip next week and would appreciate some info.............Does anyone know the condition of the Tomahawk trail from Finland to ElY? The Silver Bay area in general?

Also, anyone know of places to stay overnight that are on the trail in Ely?

Thanks!!

We were up there a couple of weeks ago. I don't know much about Ely lodging, but I do know the Tomahawk (aka Tomachop!!) trail is now open from all of the fallen trees and branches. The volunteers did a great job with this massive task. That being said, the trail has good rideable snow (more towards Finland), but sections of the trail were not groomed. Specifically there were 10 miles near the shelter between Isabella and Ely that has not been groomed, and was rougher than a cob.. Also, with the amount of traffic towards the state trail and Trestle Inn, it needs to be groomed more often. The day we rode it we found it VERY rough with deep moguls. That being said, I am sure the club is doing the best they can with everything, and at least it's riding. Expect lots of weekend traffic..

Thanks, Mate!

I just re-read my post. I sound like a "debbie downer". Don't get me wrong, there is great riding up on the north shore, and trails are being groomed. It is just getting a lot of weekend traffic. But if you hit a trail that has been recently groomed, there is no better place to ride!. Have fun!
