engine full of oil

2001 Ski Doo mxz 700. fired up once this fall. ran till garage was full of smoke, shut off. 2 weeks later, went to start, no start. pulled plugs, full of oil. tore down and found a broken thermostat. took jugs off and crankcase is indeed full of oil. W.T.F.

The crankshaft has a center gear on it to run the water pump, there is oil there to keep it lubricated, and there are oil seals on each side of the gear, sounds as if the seals are leaking or could possibly be the oil pump, there are check valves on the small oil lines going to the crankcase, have seen them leak also
