The State of Illinois Dept of Natural Resources will not process my registration w/o both the body number and the engine number. I've looked and looked for the engine number but no luck. Does anybody have any suggestions on locating it? Thanks

Illinois sucks thats why people do not register with them. I think the serial number is under the motor so almost impossible to get. They want this even though they will register a stolen snowmobile because the do not cross check anything.

These are stamped into the largest part of the motor, aka, the crankcase. Good luck finding it.

If it were me, I would get the number on the tunnel, and call cat...they will have a record of it.

Find it and gove that number to Cat and they can tell you the motor number I think this number is still good. ---> 218-681-9851<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message -->

Registration

Same thing happened to me in Illinois when I bought my doo. I called ski-doo and some dealers as to where the number is located on the motor. Neither could give a location and I've never found it. I registered my sled in Wisconsin. I picked the county I rode the most in and used it. I registered it online and took about 10 minutes. Illinois is making it harder to give them your money.

I have to mid 90's polaris wedge chassis drag sleds. Neither of them are regisitered as they were strictly for drag racing.

Now most drag tracks around here require the sled to be licenesed. If the DNR show up its an automatic $100 fine if you don't have a sticker on it.

How were you registering your sled in WI if you lived in IL? Don't you have to register it in IL also?

I need to get these 2 sleds registered. Anyone know what I can do?

Registration

Racing Joe66-just go to the Wisconsin DNR website to register. I used the county I rode the most in Wisconsin for the registration, and my home address for the mailing address. It is fast and easy.

Just went trought this AGIAN! I registered in WI last year, took 20 min, on the WWW, had my stickers 3 days later. After being harrased by IL dnr, and ticketed for improper registration, I decided to register it in IL. So this year I gathered all the paperwork and start to search for the engine number, well on my ZR600 its on the clutch side of the crankcase, BEHIND the motor mount. Ended up calling my local dealer and gave them my VIN, and they were able to give me the engine number. Oh yeah and I still do not have my reg number from the IL dnr!!!

Arctic Cat saved the day!

I called the number that was posted earlier in this thread and left a voice mail message explaining what I needed and why I needed it. Ten minutes later I received a call back with the number. Many thanks Arctic Cat!!!

So you registered a snowmobile with an engine number given to you over the phone?

Yeah, that's what the letter that I received from the DNR suggested. I've not yet gotten my sticker, we'll see how it turns out.

Illinois is the most rediculas state when it comes to snowmobile registration. I have bought many out of state sleds and every time they make me jump through hoops. go online and print two copies of the registration application, then mail one to them or don't. then keep one for yourself that will legally cover you while you ride in Illinois or any other state as long as you buy the trail stickers in neighboring states. this will cover 90 days after the application date, this will cover most of Illinois riding time. Then do it again next year. I am sick of regulations that are ludacris. We are all trying to be honest and they treat us like criminals.
