Epoxy Live Edge Table

Now that we're in the off season. Has anyone ever used epoxy on a live edge slab of wood. I want to make an outdoor table for my patio and am curious to try this method on a slab of wood. Is it hard to do? Anything to look out for?

Thanks!

It's not too hard to work with, just make sure you mix up plenty, as there are no second chances with that stuff. Be sure to fill any cracks or knot holes, as they will suck up the epoxy and leave a dent in the overall finish. A hair drier works great to get rid of any bubbles.

The stuff is impressive and actually pretty easy to use if you plan out the project. I like to have everything laid out and ready to coat before even thinking about mixing.

Some epoxies are not suited for outdoor use because of poor UV discoloration. Make sure to use a product that can handle the sun over time.

One trick I also do with epoxy projects. I usually have a couple of items on hand that may benefit from epoxy coating. I hate to throw any just in case I mix a little more than needed. Epoxy also makes a nice durable coating on spiral paint mixers. I usually let them drip dry to give a nice coat. The mixers still work fine and they are easier to clean after a coat of epoxy.

I've got a similar outdoor project in my future, I would love to know what you use and how it turns it. My table will see sun.

It might be a month or so. Our patio hasn't even been poured. I plan to do the legs out of block and them have a couple live edge boards put together for a table top. For the record, I am NOT a woodworker. Figured I'd give it a shot though. If anything I'll just stain more wood if it doesn't turn out and then replace it with some marble when I have some money lol.
