Escanaba in da Moonlight

I been meaning to ask has anyone seen the movie Escanaba in da Moonlight ~ The Buck-less Upper?

One of the guys I work with said a friend told him to watch it, that he would get a kick out of it. He then told me I would watch the movie b/c of the time I have spent in da UP. While I sure it did not win any awards, if you know the area and watch for the inside jokes you will probably ask yourself what did I just watch, but it was kinda funny, and has some very true opinions in it. Like their feeling towards DNR.

Here is what was on Netflix site about the movie:
Writer-director Jeff Daniels also stars in this offbeat comedy about a family of hunting enthusiasts in backwoods Michigan. The pressure is on for 43-year-old Rueben: If he doesn't bag a buck this year, he'll be the Soady clan's biggest failure. Rueben thinks that adopting some new rituals -- such as anointing himself with porcupine urine -- may change his luck, but all they seem to do is set off a string of eerie supernatural events.

I guess originally it was a stage play.

I have seen both...and the movie is funnier, but the play wasn't bad...there is limits to what you can do in a play.

Definitely worth the watchin...

My favorite part was where the mother covered the boys eyes so as to not see the guy who has gone "buckless" .

I watched it and thought it was the worst movie I had ever seen!

Watch Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas starring Johnny Depp if you like watching a string of errie supernatural events. Plus, it's a true story and is actually funny.

Hey der dat was some great movie eh? It is a movie you need to have a couple of brewskis with. Being from the UP, there is a lot of truth to the movie. Brought back the memories from deer camp. Now there will never be an Oscar awarded for this flick, but for good hearted humor it's a fun watch!!!

Well I got the comments that I thought I would see regarding the movie, and as I said "you will probably ask yourself what did I just watch" but the inside jokes is what makes it.

Great movie, but not if your looking for Citizen Kane. I watched it when I lived in Escanaba and I asked the guys in the mill what they thought of it and they hated it, They thought it gave them a bad name. Until the very end I was laughing a lot, then did the what the ?? I always recommend it though.

The parts about the UFO's I thought could be done without, but I did enjoy it and it brings back alot of memories of deer camp.

Best part of the whole movie to me " OH dat explains da dream"

Instead of the ufo's, they should have worked in the Paulding Light......now that would have giving us something to talk about........

For what it was, I thought it was OK. The problem I had was that the guy they cast as the father, Harve Presnell, was just coming off his stint as an ultra serious and not very nice guy "Mr. Parker" in the TV series "The Pretender", so that's who I was seeing when he was on screen. And I just didn't think he pulled off a yooper accent very well. The whole situation felt to me like Jeff was thinking "hey, I need someone in the movie besides me that at least someone would recognize outside of Michigan."

And that would have been much better than UFO's!
