Exciter Bogging

My budy has a Yamaha Exciter, when he rides it down the road the sled runs like a top. As soon as he gets off road and in deeper snow sled bogs out and eventually will barley move. He then creeps it back to road and it slowly cleans out then runs like a top again. Any thoughts on this?

Could it be the exhaust buried in the snow? Maybe clutching or the motor is weak. (low compression)

could be getting snow in the carbs too.

I have found when you have problems is first change belt. Superising how often this makes big difference.

I rode exciters for several years and I would be almost positive that the problem is in the secondary clutch. Clean, lube and check the buttons and I think your problem will go away. When it does that it almost seems like a carb issue,ie.loading up. I chased that problem for quite a while before I figured it out.
