If you READ it also says, phone numbers, addresses and anything you thought was "opted" out of providing. Yet if you disclosed it, they now have it.

And that IS....A BIG DEAL.

In order for anyone to get that information, you have to put it out there. Facebook is FUN and EASY to keep in touch with friends and family AND find old friends and get back in touch.

HOWEVER - my name, phone number, address and my email are on my online resumes. You can't effectively apply for any jobs without putting your resume on line - and in order for the employers to get a hold of you, you need to put that data out there. No different than a phone book - name, address phone number. So why isn't there all kinds of horrible press about the job hunting web pages and people collecting your info from there! That has your work history on there! OH NO! Probably because there aren't stupid people posting stupid pictures and horrible comments about other people on their professional resume!

Facebook or any other site - if you are stupid enough to put stuff out there that will make you look stupid - that's your own fault. Just don't be stupid...

So sick of hearing all the hype crap about Facebook. It's not Facebook - it's the stupid people using it!

Common sense would agree with these statements. But surely it doesn't matter WHERE you post information...if you do, then it will get in the wrong hands, IF someone wants it badly enough. So do yourself a favor and keep this information OFF the web...If you are responding to an advertisement for work, drop the company posting the job a note and let them know that you would prefer to send your resume directly to them via their website, which of course you check out thoroughly BEFORE you follow thru with doing it. NEVER EVER just post to a bulletin board or resume center with all your info...cause if you do...you really are asking for it. Leave an email address only...and then BEEEEEEE careful. If someone with a job is ligit...they will contact you and give you safe guards that they are what they say they are...and probably respect you more for having the brains to keep said private info off the web....

Women need to be extremely careful with this process. There are so many con artists out there and sick puppies, that if you let your guard down just one time...it could be the end of you.

So don't panic, but don't think that because you have NOT checked a box to put the info out there that is enough...it isn't...but if you never post it you are covered. Email is pretty private...they really don't know where you are unless you tell someone...but facebook and all the other popular websites are potentially bad places and you don't want anyone trying to check you out without your permission.

I do a bunch of work on Craigs list and let me tell you the nut jobs that lurk there is pretty darn scarry....but I know that and work with that knowledge.

Booon - Yeah, ya gotta be careful... after over a year and a half of job searching, and over 500 applications submitted, the only way you get in is by applying to the job posting. The majority of companies won't even look at your resume if you send it regular mail! And they won't take your calls. If you don't have a way in through a networking connection - all you have is your online resume and their job postings. If I can't find the company on the internet and get complete details about it, I don't respond to their job posting or the email should I get one.

BUT I do get your point, you must be careful of what you put out there and you have to be careful who you respond to. I did get a call from a guy in DT Mpls who wanted me to come for an interview, I just didn't feel good about it. In the end I didn't go and when I called to tell him I wasn't coming - the phone number he gave me was no good. I then emailed him and he never responded.

Unfortunately, your name, address and phone numbers and email addresses are pretty much public knowledge. You have to pay extra to have your phone number unlisted. If at any time you are in court for any reason, it's public knowledge - name, address, age...

You have to be careful - you have to keep an eye on what your kids are putting out there. I remember an old rule - if you can't show your grandma, don't put it out there! :)

Ummm, sort of, but Facebook has earned its privacy criticisms legitimately. Prior to the last privacy upgrade it was extremely difficult to control who had access to your Facebook info. Think about YouTube for a second. When you post a video you click one place for public, unlisted, or private. One click and done. On FB it was click here, there, over there, up there, down over there, that page, this page, over to applications, up there, to the left over there, back 2 pages, down there, next section and repeat.

FB makes its money selling extremely targeted advertising to narrow slices of consumers defined by their profile info. The more accessible that info the better the advertising targeting.

I have a facebook account that I don't use, made it dormant and took everything off it - your not allowed to really delete it.

Every so often it comes back to life on it's own. 5-6 people will thank me for inviting me to be their friend. Even the info I deleted from the site is still saved someplace, because they still comment on things that are no longer there.

I don't trust it. Once your on it there is no way to leave
