Fall Colors?

Been seeing some reports saying that the last week of Sept. and first week of Oct. will be at peak. Curious if that is true up in the Keweenaw. Starting to change on some trees down here by Green Bay.

We are just starting to have some trees turn. It has been a very slow start. Not sure if that will impact our typical peak (Oct 8-12), but might make it even more impressive with all of them going at the same time.

I'm coming up to view the colors on the weekend of the 4th and 5th...hoping to see some color, but just am looking for a nice time away. From the reports i see, i may be a little early, but hope to make the run up to copper harbor and over to the porkies for some nice viewing.

Been planning a group motorcycle ride for next wknd in southern WI. Last year we went out the first wknd in Oct, but this year seems to be behind a bit.

Pictures from October 6, 2012 taken up at Herman.

Lake effect drizzle (not snow yet) off and on today at Lac La Belle. They plan to run the chair lift at Mt. Bohemia next weekend, Sept. 28-29, and the following weekend, Oct 5-6. The colors up there today are a nice thick blend of dark greens, light greens, and a few yellows. With these cooler temps, they should be changing by the minute now. Personally, I prefer more greens than bare trees in the mix - blue sky, blue lake, and a touch of white on the ground. That to me is the peak mix of colors!

Drove from Houghton to Green Bay and back this weekend. The stretch with the most color was between Alberta and Amasa, a few maples with bright vibrant colors, otherwise just a bunch of trees with a yellow-green tint to them. I would assume more inland locations such as these would have the best colors for this upcoming weekend.

Should be a nice weekend in the Keweenaw. The colors should be even better next weekend.

Yep, just return yesterday from the Central UP and only the maples were showing bright red. I'd say the first weekend in October will be good.

I just finished a long mountain bike ride from Lac La Belle up to Delaware, down to Eagle Harbor, up and over Brockway Mountain, down to Copper Harbor, out to High Rock Bay, and back up and over Mount Bohemia back down to Lac La Belle. The colors are progressing nicely, a little green yet down by the lake and up on Brockway, but quite stunning up at the highest elevations on the summit of Bohemia. I'm still hoping for peak next weekend as I have company coming up, but the risk now are forecasted 30mph winds that may take a toll. We shall see.

Same here gusts to 30mph & rain Saturday but I would say 50% color / 50% green so still be good for awhile in Vilas.

Looks like PEAK color this week in Vilas. Every tree showing some color now & so far holding up to 35 mph wind gusts. I would not wait any longer peak color is sometime this week. Heard very little color Point & south.

Colors are now peaking at Lac La Belle. Past peak now at the summit of Mount Bohemia with many leaves falling, but still an awesome view up there today.

Agreed, had a good time today at Mount Houghton and the cliffs above Cliff Drive. Great October day in the Keweenaw!

As a side note, to those who have been to Mount Houghton before, which side of the mountain do you climb up? I feel we very well might have took an unconventional route to the top.
