Looking for info regarding fan cooled motors. May buy a skidoo with 550F. What are the advantages and disadvantages of these?

Thanks for help.

Advantages are light weight, simple design, reliable, less prone to overheating in low snow conditions or ice. Disadvantages are less power and louder.

I have a 09 550F GSX with 11,135 flawless miles on it. We use it for our snowmobile safety classes and a back-up sled when friends sleds are broke down. Not a rocket but fun in the woods and reliable as heck. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

X2 but more prone to overheat in warm temps...been there done that good starter sled then on to liquid cooled. Limited market for used fans not that way for liquid cooled. Biggest bene is riding on icey trails don't need cooling but hyfax needs lube so always tradeoffs.

another advantage is they are a warm ride, at least mine is. The heat they is produced is removed by the fan and blows out of the engine bay. Depending on design, the heat is directed in towards rider and for some it is a huge factor. My wife absolutely loves her fanner because it is a very warm sled, even though the sled rides like a lumber wagon because of it's age it makes up for it with comfort.

My dad rides a GSX 550 fanner and its a solid sled. Definitely has some get up and go, but not nearly the amount of a liquid cooled. If you only ride on this sled you wont notice a difference, but if you jump back and forth between riding a liquid cooled and a fan sled you will be wanting a bit more. The engine is super reliable, has had ZERO problems and that's just basic maintenance and treating your machines right. The biggest advantage is in the woods you really can put some space on people because its a light sled and easy to throw around. Only thing I would suggest is putting studs on the track. For some reason the sled can get a little squirly if you're really on it, and ive noticed that the few times I ride it. Overall its a solid sled
