Just found out about this from my local paper. January 30th from International falls MN 140 miles to Tower MN on the Arrowhead snowmobile trail...
Don't forget the John bear grease sled dog race that takes over the north shore state trail from Two Harbors up to Grand marais MN...
Comments from/ about DNR? Local and state wide clubs?? MNUSA?? ( MNUSA adamant about keeping 55 mph speed limit, but that's another story... )
Suddenly the MI trail pass is an incredible bargain!!!

I doubt a fat tire bike, or a team of sled dogs and even reach 55 mph anyway.

This has been held at the same time of year, on the same trail, for years.

Yep was just going to post that. I have a few friends that do this race in fact. If Tucker Hibbert didn't race sleds in the winter he'd probably do it too being he occasionally races mountain bikes in the summer.

Hopefully Tucker would be on a fat tire specific trail... My concern is more fat tire bikes, cross country skiers and pedestrians on snowmobile trails.

Never cared much for that stretch anyway. Let the fat tires have it.

I have been on the Arrowhead at night during the race and came up on some fat tire bike racers. They had head lamps and red tail lights on. It was no big deal going around them. The race is only a couple days of the entire winter and I don’t feel it’s a threat to snowmobiling. The deer on the trail on other hand is a major threat to the sport. I have had many close calls this year. I think they should be required to have a trail permit and flashing lights.

I am sure it is all OK'd with the DNR. This race isn't an encroachment to the snowmobile trails. Heck how about the cross country ski race they had for years near Biwabik on the snowmobile trails? I remember that going on 25 years ago.

It's different if these people just go and use the sled trails on their own and not during a closed event like this.
