Really thinking about coming to this next weekend. Always wanted to in the past as this is one of the weekends we're always up, just never worked out. We're staying at D's so would come down 109 to 8, or 3 to 8. Seems like a good loop to make, but I've heard poor things about the south end of 109. Any advice about trails to take, characteristics of the trails (grade, twisty, flat fields, etc) and length of time or miles would be great to know.

Gary, I would suggest taking 109 down and 3 home. 109 can be a little rough through the twisty trees and through the Hemlock areas the snow can be thin but so I would do this when your fresh. Once you get to the bottom of 109 the Sturgeon Gorge is beautiful then it's forest roads to #8.Trail 3 north of #8 they groom every night and the trail is in good to very good condition. Trail 3 is a mixed bag, woodsy, twisty with elevation climbs as you run through Military Hill with some flat areas down by Bruce Crossing. This is definitely the easier way to go, nice for the ride home. #8 is a grade. I'm guessing around 30-40 miles the 109 way to the cookout from D's about 50-60 miles the trail 3 way. Hope to see you there :)

Good idea. Too bad for us. We're still doing that loop so we'll imagine how good the hot chocolate would have been as we ride by.
