First snowmobile trip with my son

Next week Thursday thru Sunday I'm taking my first snowmobile trip with my son. I've been looking forward to this day since he got his first sled when he was 8. Now 5 years later it's only a few days away. I'm pretty stoked!!

I love hearing stories like this! Imagine how excited your son must be? I even get excited just thinking about it. Have a great time!

Thanks for all the good wishes. My son is extremely excited to say the least. He already has all of his clothes laid out on his bedroom floor. He took his snowmobile certification class as soon as he was able age wise in anticipation of this day.

We just got back this afternoon and had a great trip. We went to Park Falls WI and there was a lot of snow from the huge storm the day before and not a whole lot of traffic. It was a trip I will remember forever. Will post pics tomorrow.

Glad to hear you both had a great trip. You picked a good weekend to go up just after a huge storm. Look forward to some pics. Heading UP this weekend and staying in Greenland.

This thread brings back memories of my son. At 2 1/2 on a 1 up almost on my lap, he didn't want to stop or get off. At 4 or 5 behind me on a 2 up and at 12 getting certified to ride solo. Hold on to
these days, you'll treasure them forever.

That is SO cool!! Thanks for posting the pics! Looks like you had plenty of snow and even a nice stuck in there!! It's hard to tell from the huge smile on your son's face - did he MAYBE have a good time?? :D

Congrats on your first trip together!! I was smiling the whole time looking at the pics!! :)

Looks like you guys had a great time! I have three boys (7,6,5) so we are a little away from solo rides on the trail. We ride four wheelers (on private property) at our cabin and they love it. I am sure the first time they can ride legally on the trail will be a day to remember. Thanks for posting the pics!

Thanks to everyone for all of the kind comments. Yeah it is really cool when your son has the same passion or addiction, as some would call it, as you do. Windingtrailgal, I don't think that smile came off his face the entire trip. He was also very proud of his first "stuck". Luckily for me that sled is so light it's a breeze to dig out!

I too got to experience the father/son moment for the first time last Friday. My oldest boy is 12 and is thrilled he finally gets to run his own sled. Just the 2 of us in the morning-light traffic, and the trails were great. We stopped at an intersection, pulled our helmets off, and he ran up to me gave me a hug, and told me "Dad this is the best day of my life--thank you". We than talked a bit about sled related safety (what to do, what not to do, what to watch out for, etc...). Nothing like first hand experience to learn the ropes. He did a fantastic job. Stayed to the right, rode within his abilities, and looked both ways twice at every crossing. Of course we had to stop for a snack and soda because in his words, "that's what us sledders do". Heck, he even pulled up to the gas pumps on bare ground like a veteran (I wanted to do that for him, but he insisted he could handle it). Did not have to correct him one time. He really exceeded my expectations regarding his abilities. It was a morning both he and I will remember for the rest of our lives. It certainly wasn't the quantity of the ride (we only put on about 70 miles), but the quality bonding/teaching time made it better than any other ride I've been on in my life. A great day to say the least. I couldn't have asked for a better way to close out the riding season.

Because I'm a girl and I can admit it - TEARS in my eyes when I read he gave you a hug and said it was the best day of his life! How AWESOME is THAT?? Goes WAY beyond snowmobiling!! :)

I gotta be honest windingtrailgal, when he did that, it got me a little choked up too. And you are absolutely right, that is much bigger than snowmobiling, or anything else for that matter. He's a great kid, and I look very forward to many more experiences we can share together. Kids grow too fast, and before you know it, they're out on their own. The next 6 years (9 years including my younger boy) will be cherished for sure.
