Hey gang, just got back from the trip to Watersmeet area. Stayed at a resort on the Cisco Chain of Lakes. Had a great time. Trails need fresh snow, but the grooming crews were out every day working with the snow they have. The trails were groomed well and still very rideable. We found more snow as we rode north and east of Watersmeet. We stopped at many of the suggested places, and they were great. The Cisco chain is a fun chain of lakes to run, but don't run them at night, unless you know where you are going (this is a large chain of lakes). We got lost 2 of the 3 nights we were going back to the cabin..Great trip though, thanks to all for the tips!

Glad you had a good time. Ill be there next week.

We just got back from the Watersmeet area. Stayed at the casino Fri - Tues. Great place to base out of. We did stop at the Mosiquito, and it is great. Ride up to Lake Gogebic and hit all of the spots. Gogibic Lodge, Root cellar, THE HOOP, and ate at J&W bar-b-que in Bergland and it was great. (We told them they needed to advertise on John Dee while we were there.) Trails were great every way we went.

Glad you stopped at J&W Beer and BBQ, I love that place! Going to eat there again Sunday night and plan on talking to the owner about advertising on here.

All very true. The loop he describes of Trail 2, Trail 15, Trail 8 and Trail 107 is usually OUTSTANDING. If you want to do a backpack trip, I agree with making Big Bay your destination. Trail 15 to L'Anse, Trail 14 to Big Bay is another great trail ride. I would suggest staying at the Thunder Bay Inn: http://thunderbayinn.net/ Very historic and quaint with great food and a bar.

I'm staying there Monday night and have been there a few times. Good place, but no tv in the rooms.

Back to the Casino question. In my humble opinion, I'm sure it depends on the Casino. It seems to me that Bad River Casino near Ashland, WI. could do a whole lot more to support/promote snowmobiling. They have a trail TO their casino from the east only so it's a destination only.. I believe that they could build, or help fund, a trail from Ashland thru their casino over to Ironwood. It's kind of like they say "bring us your money, but don't stay and enjoy the area". Just my $ .02.

Been that way for years. What was it...5-10 years ago....you couldn't even get there by sled. Finally a small group within the tribe convinced "whoever" to allow a "trail" from the Hurley side. "Whoever" reluctantly agreed. As I understand from various locals, certain members of the tribe would love to have full access to the casino and hotel from both sides, pay to groom the trails, etc etc. But the elders just won't have any of it. They don't like snowmobilers, plain and simple.

And I do my best to see to it that this word is widespread. No sense to spend your hard earned money there when most of us go by at least two other casinos on our way to that area..
