Florence and Forest conditions

Yes, I rode yesterday in both counties briefly and conditions were good. plenty of snow but the groomers had been out in only half of what I rode. Where the groomers hadn't been, there was enough new snow to make the trails still very good. I primarily rode trail 2 and trail 6.

Forest should be good in extreme NW to SW no idea about central and to SE plus warm up coming so factor that in too.

Thank whitedust, and dfattack. I had hopes of hearing from both of you. Good news. Perhaps snobuilder can add some info. We have had these 2 counties on our bucket list, and have yet to get there for some 16 years. Too long!!! Enjoy your riding!!!!!!!

Not sure on the starting point. Any suggestions appreciated. I have a friend in between Conover, and Lando. May start from there, and head east. Years ago my son and I started in Gwynn, or Sidnaw, and would work south. But never got too far into the Wis counties. Friend of mine ,and his wife both say Forest, and Florence counties are their favorites.

you could start just about anywhere now from Iron Mountain to Florence and anywhere west and north of that area. We only passed one group of 4 riders in 200 miles yesterday. There's a Holiday Inn in Iron Mountain that is close to the trail and a smaller hotel in Florence that sits right on the trail next to the BP.

A favorite ride of my dad and I when I was growing up was (coming from the Green Bay area) drop in Townsend / Wabeno, ride up through Hiles (Pine Lake Pub is a great stop) up around the top of Forest County by Alvin / Tipler, and then back south to wherever we had started from trough either Laona or Armstrong Creek. Really, that whole area north of hwy 8 has a bit of U.P. flavor - fewer towns, fewer trails, but also less traffic. Don't hesitate to drop down into northern Marinette County either - mile after mile of wide, sweeping forest roads.

As of today, and things can change quickly with the sun and predicted warm temps, Red Arrow Trails at extreme north end of Oconto and ALL of Forest county are good. They have all been groomed since the last snow, which ranged from a low of 6' in Northern Oconto to 8 the more you headed north. Assume Florence would be similar.

MS Ride based at the casino in Carter this weekend, along with a few other events will create a bit of traffic in the area.

Rode some of those areas on Wednesday night. While they were pretty decent, a lot of the fire roads are plowed. With any kind of warm up, like today, you will be riding on gravel. Not ideal for sure.
