Wow, I can't imagine the hassle that would be! That is really sad for sure.

Blue Ox is going to have to reach out to surrounding clubs to groom their trails. Even if they had insurance it would be extremely difficult to obtain grooming equipment within a month to groom trails. Crying shame for sure it’s going to be difficult to ride to the UP and difficult to access WI trails in that area. I don’t see a work around solution other than keeping the grade open but that gets beat in normal grooming intervals. Any news would be appreciated.

Agree with what your post said, and it is the sad truth for this year. Insurance will be the future groomers in time?

Just received an update from someone who just spoke to a Blue Ox representative. Apparently they normally run two groomers. Both of the current groomers they intended to use this season were destroyed along with the drags. Sad to say but one of them was brand new this year. The club had two older (I heard retired) groomers that didn't get damaged and they were able to get them started. That's all I know at this time and if anyone has any additional information or I have something wrong please chime in.

Thanks Darren there is some hope the old groomers can be used may need drags but that’s less expensive than groomers. Hopefully a Blue Ox board member will post something when plans firm up.

I have an update on the situation in Florence.

I just spoke to someone at the Florence Blue Ox club and they now have two groomers to replace those that were damaged. One has only 200 hours on it so looks like they will be up and running soon. I was told lots of trees down on the trails and they are trying to get them cleared. Can't do it with ATV's or trucks due to the amount of snow on the ground. Trails don't open until December 15th.

At least there is a plan and should be good soon.

We have received 10 more inches of snow in the last week. Trails will OPEN on Friday. Through many hardships were are back in the snowmobiling game! The Blue Ox Trail Riders do an awesome job of keeping the trails groomed and the response from riders proves it. Load on up and head in the direction of Florence County, you wont be sorry! All you could do there is hire a Cat to come in and open it up.

That was my exact thought. Yes, you can use chainsaws and maybe the front of the groomer to move the trees, but it would be a lot more efficient to use a big cat with a blade in the front, as long as the ground could hold the weight.

What a tough fall/early winter. Most of the time we are lucky if 15% of our normal riding area this time of year has enough snow to be open. We are well above that, but dealing with other issues.
