Flushed toilet when the silver water valve to toilet was in off position

My heating person shut off the valve to fix a heating issue. I forgot it was off, and flushed the toilet (it is in a loft and i rarely used it). The tank is now empty.
So I turned the valve to on position by the toilet and some water started to drip out where the silver valve is. I could here water coming through the valve, but I quickly turned it back to the off position to stop the drops and assess the situation.

Any suggestions? Did i ruin the toilet by flushing it with the valve shut off?

Turn it on all the way if drips put a pan to catch the drips sooner or later it will mineral up and seal off. Just check it and empty drip pan when you have to

Valve should have a gland nut around the shaft, right behind the handle. Probably use a 9/16 wrench & try to turn it tighter (clockwise) just a bit.

Easiest thing to do is go to your local hardware store and pick up a Quarter-turn shut-off valve and replace it. Obviously you want to turn the water off to your house. You shouldn't get a lot of water coming out as I'm assuming that being in the loft it is upstairs, and at the highest point of your house. But you can still drain down a little bit to make sure your incoming water main valve holds. Or, you can gently loosen the packing nut where the handle and the stem are, and re-tighten it. Turn the handle half way in and loosen the nut and re-tighten it. Gently! But make sure your water to your house is shut off. See if Youtube has any Fixer-upper videos on it. I had one grenade on me when I was working on one under a sink at a school district I worked at. I had to shut the main to the whole building down because the valves closest to the area didn't work. Fun stuff. I'm not a plumber (I only play one on T.V.), but I have done years of plumbing work with and without plumbing contractors working as a maintenance employee for a lot of years. I've been lucky to have picked up a few tricks of the trade.
